Conté à Paris Drawing Pencil - White

I bought this to go with sanguine and black conte pencils in order to try the aux trois crayons techniques.However, despite the other two pencils having a soft, pastel like application, this pencil seems to be oil or wax based which means that blending with the others is a little awkward. Areas of blending take on a different, smooth appearance, and an oily sheen, whereas the black and sanguine mix and blend as expected.I've found that using a white charcoal pencil is a better option for the technique.As simply a 'white pencil' it isn't particularly good either, being a little too transparent to be of any use.It kinda works for burnihing coloured pencils, but I woildn't buy this again.

White pencils are problematic. I try not to use one and indeed very rarely do. I use a normal 3D pencil to mark the back of fabric I am using for patchwork. The majority of cotton fabrics for patchwork - indeed some quite dark fabrics - have a pale back and the 3D pencil slides over and marks the line I need to make to cut out the patches BUT I have recently bought some very pretty dark fabrics which unfortunately have the pattern going through just as strongly on the back of the fabric as the front. The piece I am designing needs these dark colours. The white pencil I already had made no impression at all so I bought this one. A reputable name. And yes I can get it to work but not very easily - it does not slide over the fabric but it does make a mark and I can cut the patches so I can make the quilt as I want and I just have to accept that these dark patches beautiful as they are will not be easy to work with and may not be as accurately cut and marked as the other patches. C'est la vie!

This is a white Conte pencil. Slightly oilier and more transparent than a white pastel pencil but the one to get if you want to blend it with Conte a Paris Sanguine and Pierre Noir for the classic trois crayons technique. (When its blended over the top of the Pierre Noire you get a very blue grey which is extremely useful for eyes in portrait sketches.)It was also well enough packaged to arrive in good condition with the core undamaged which was excellent.

could work out expensive, buying individually, but i only needed the one white pencil or would have considered buying a set, which included a white

Works nice on coloured paper but doesn't highlight over graphite sketches. I should be able to use it for some work but not others.

It is what it is. Used for eye highlights/reflections on pyrographer eyes, and other highlighting in my pyrography. It does the job well

Brilliant for shading on toned paper. Prefer these white pencils to the white prisma pencil I find it gives a better effect and seems to blend with a blending stump better. I would say this is a great pencil to have and I've tried many :) Came well packaged and no issues with the pencils.
