used at night by the pillows of a double bed would it disturb the partner sleeping with the one who really needs the air to be purified

Can't hear it but you are supposed to be at least 50cm away in terms of breathing, and it has a faint chloriney smell, should be fine for you

Don't mean to be stupid but how do you take out the "dust collector" which it says you should clean periodically ? At the base where you can pull out

The "dust collector" components are the dust plate and needles. These are fixed into the front of the purifier and therefore not intended for removal. The instructions advice is to use a cotton wool bud soaked in alcohol through the slots on the base. These are the 4 (2x2) parallel slots on the underside close to the front. I have not attempted this procedure yet but have used a vacuum cleaner with good suction pressed against the slots. Used on a regular basis this will clear out any dust accumulated.
