Q: Is it easier to clean than a conventional french press coffee maker?

Yes it is easier to clean than a conventional French press. That makes it very easy since I never found a French press hard to clean. Then air dry.

Q: Do the used coffee grounds empty easily after brewing, or do they compact into a puck? Thanks.

Not a compact puck. There's still a fair amount of liquid with the grinds in a kind of slurry. When I swish it around and pour it into the trash can at work most of the grinds are gone. Then with a tiny drizzle of water, rinse the remaining grinds down the insides, swirl, and pour it out again. This removes about 99% of the grinds and I just rinse/wash from there.

Q: Is it 100% metal and how about the paint quality?

The outside is metal, the inside press is plastic. We love this press, the quality is good. There are a couple of seals that can be easily lost when washing, so you must be mindful to not lose them. Also, just to share, the directions say not to wash in dishwasher. Hand washing is not a deal breaker for us though.
