The only snare head I will buy from now on. Full stop.
Got this to use on my Pearl Joey Jordison Signature Snare. It makes an already amazing sounding snare sound even better. Thicker than any head I've used but still articulate and very durable, which is great for metal players like myself. I've been a drummer for 30 years, used countless different heads and this is the best one.

Cool woven look & durability!
The Evans HD Dry is normally my go to. I see this as a similar head in regards to attack, controlling overtones, etc. except you get it indefinitely, since it will take 10x as long to wear this head out. The standout feature is the looks for sure, pictures doesn’t do it justice since the appearance changes at different angles. The woven Kevlar in the head makes me think of Nike Fly-knit running shoes, it’s beautiful. Also, it will maintain this look due to the durability and because of the unique color, you won’t see the eventual 3” circle from wear and tear, like traditional white heads. The hybrid almost gets better with age, just keep it clean and care for it in between beatings. The crack on a well broke in head of a marching snare is the sound I love and this head allows me to capture that, along with the look. My brass 13x7 Pork Pie snare is naturally a ringy drum, this head calms it down just a little more than the HD Dry, so I really don’t need a moon. Maybe half of one just to take out a certain frequency, but it’s take it or leave it. You will need to crank this up a bit tighter than normal heads. I.e. Normally I keep an HD Dry or any other two ply batter tuned around 88-90 on a Drum Dial, while the Hybrid is cranked to about 95 to get similar sound and feel and I don’t sacrifice anything when it comes to sensitivity. Once you get out of 1 ply and into 2 ply heads, the ultra sensitive feel that folks speak of isn’t the same. The hybrid is closer to a 2 ply in feel and sound, I’m just trying to convey that it is a lively head despite its incredible heft. I will suggest that if you are considering this head, put it on a drum with premium hardware. At least a 2.3mm triple flange hoop with good hardware. If not, you’re bound to end up with bent screws trying to crank it right. The head was $55 at the time of purchase, which is a lot. There’s plenty other things you can do with those dollars, but I just look at it as an investment, for the reasons I mentioned above. I’d recommend this head for anyone looking to play rock, metal, hip hop, gospel. If you don’t want to spend, get an HD Dry, they’re great.

Good little drum, if you know how to set up a new instrument and replace the heads and snares with quality parts.
Upon receipt, I pulled this instrument out of the box and played it - as expected, it was truly awful. Garbage heads and the original snares are a joke. I immediately stripped the drum down, lubricated every tension rod, replaced the snare beads and heads, and reassembled the drum. After "playing in" the heads and gradually clinching them down, this little drum sounds GREAT! I spent more on the replacement heads and snare beads than I did on the drum itself costed, and now it sounds as good or even better than $300 drums at local music stores. The design of the hardware is actually very good - the tension system is designed and fabricated to use as little steel as possible, and yet deliver consistent tension on the shell. The wooden shell is very light plywood, looks like either 3 medium or 5 thin veneer layers, of birch or poplar hardwood. Whatever it is, it is very light and has a pleasing sound to my ear, once the instrument was set up properly. If you know what you're doing with drum maintenance and don't mind spending about $100 (including the price of the drum) for all the parts you'll need, I think that this is an excellent deal.

The perfect snare batter head for versatile drummers
This is by far the best sounding and feeling snare drum head I’ve used and I’ve been drumming for 50 years. It has the solid punch and texture for light brush work all at the same time!!!

Like a nest of backbeat-providing hornets
I don't own a drumset anymore, but I played drums as my only instrument for about 5 years. When I switched to guitar and vocals full time, I sold my drumset to the guy playing drums in my band, but I still get stuff for my old set, like heads and snare wire, just because I like the kit to sound good. It's being played in my band after all. So I would usually get the same heads I liked putting on it, heads that sounded good to me, like the Controlled Sound on snare and Pinstripes on the toms. Once that got old to my drummer, he asked for a complete overhaul, and this snare head was at the top of his list, even though he had never played one before. We have ourselves a 90s alternative band that's heavy sometimes but mellow at other times, so the reputation of this head as something hardcore metal guys liked scared me off for a while, but I eventually decided to get it to show my drummer some love. This head changed my relationship with my drummer. When I put this thing on his snare (which is a stock kit snare made from poplar) the amount of life breathed into it was just stunning. We tuned it up high and it just stung like a nest of backbeat-providing hornets. Not only was he now cutting through with ease, but every part of his snare sound was better, from his ghost notes to his rimshots, all with no overtones, just pure crack. I now ask my drummer what kind of sandwich he wants for lunch because of how much this one choice of head changed the dynamic of our relationship. He likes tuna salad by the way.

Pricey but worth it
Nastiest tone I’ve found in a snare head. Great for metal/hardcore. Cuts through any mix but not super high pitch which is a nice change from most heads that can do that. A little on the dry side but that’s fine. Don’t think I’m gonna need a replacement any time soon this thing is bulletproof. Gonna buy one for my wood snare too, I have it on a 7x14 Tama steel snare and it sounds killer.
