Good tone, great value!
I have a little experience with flutes, and found this one to be easy to blow and articulate the tone. For the price it is surprisingly well-made. The notes are accurate to a digital tuner, and it sounds very rich. I will probably be getting a more expensive Xiao, but I would recommend this to any beginner, or someone like me that wanted to try one before I committed to a greater purchase. Thank you!

Not for kids, but not for most adults either
It's okay for the price, but has the feel more of an overpriced gift shop souvenir than an actual instrument. If you don't have experience with end blown, notched fipple flutes (I've played Andean quena for about 25 years) you won't have the first clue how to even get a sound from this. The fingering is different from what I'm used to, but that was to be expected, and half the reason I got it, really. The sound is alright. The membrane at the blown end is extremely thin, making me worry about the longevity of this product. The bottom line is this is too advanced for a beginner, or a child, and not well constructed enough for an experienced player. So, I'm just not sure who this is for.

Beautifully crafted. Plays smoothly and looks very expensive!
I bought this bamboo flute for my daughter. She plays the clarinet in band, but she is very musically-inclined and wanted to try a more traditional instrument. She was able to figure out the angle in which you blow into it pretty quickly. It produces a nice, smooth sound. She remarked on how accurate the notes are, playing a few simple songs that she also knows on her clarinet. The craftsmanship is very good and the instrument itself is beautiful. Owning such a traditional instrument makes her very happy, and she’s gotten lots of play time out of it without any issues. Excellent flute at any price!

Disappointed
This is a beautiful piece however, it should be for display only. I say this because the more I tried to play it the more it snapped and cracked. I’m very disappointed it didn’t even survive a full 24 hours.

I love it, but not exactly what's pictured.
I love my Xiao. I got it today and after a little experimentation I can play in 2 octaves. I even attached the pretty little red tassel at the end. The bamboo is awesome. I really got my money's worth. I've always wanted a Shakuhachi, Quena, or Xiao. I have no experience with this type of mouthpiece. My only "complaint" is that I didn't get what was pictured. I didn't get the cheater insert at the top because this one is cut at a bamboo node for the top so it wouldn't fit anyway. The fingerings on a 8-hole Xiao are very different from a 6-hole Xiao. I love the 8 because it is easy to play semi-tones. I look forward to many hours of playing and learning with this.

Great choice for Beginners!
I find this Xiao to be more than I expected in quality and craftsmanship for the price. It has elegant style and is very esthetically pleasing. I find the tones in the lower octave to be mellow while the higher octave is more allegro. Compared to the DiZi which is a horizontal blown flute, I find the end blown or vertical Xiao to be the easiest to play. As someone not having owned or played a Xiao before, I find this to be a perfect starter instrument. The only down side I find is the amount of effort envolved with connecting the seperable sections. However, I expect this to become easier over time with use.

Unbeatable price for a musical instrument that will fall apart in less than a week
Don’t get me wrong, I loved it so much when I just unboxed it. At night, though, I heard this snap sound coming from the Xiao. Checked it, and found several cracks around the finger holes. Thought it was just that — boy, I was so wrong. The next day I heard another unholy noise coming from the flute, upon inspecting it, I found another long, crack by the head joint. It’s very upsetting. I hate to say: “that’s what I get…” but it’s true: that’s what I get. Get a better Xiao Flute elsewhere if you want to prevent disillusionment from clouding your day.

Great value.
Really good bamboo flute for the money. A bit of whisper, but that could be my embrosure. Sorry kids, good practice flute, but beginners only if have a teacher.
