Stanley 42-074 24 Inch Top-Read Levels

Now this is a good old fashioned level. It replaces a plastic affair that broke under minimal provocation. This might not be the sturdiest metal level but it's perfectly adequate for home and workshop purposes. I'm delighted with it because it is light in weight. We got it to carry in our travel trailer to assist in leveling the rig when we park for the night, so weight is an issue.

It does not feel "substantial" but is practical and functional for the price.

What can go wrong? Its just a plain level, but it is well constructed, accurate and pretty.

Really light and it is perfect for tight spaces where my 3' level will not work. It is easy to read.

I purchased this level for my workshop, thinking the level carrying the Stanley name would be a fine piece of equipment to add to my workshop. In this case, I was incorrect thinking that. It is very cheaply made, (thin aluminum), and to use it as a straight edge, it couldn't be used as it had a slight bend to it right out of the box. Yes, it does suffice as a level, however, I inadvertently dropped it on the floor in my daughter's living room (about 24" from wall to floor), and one of the vials (I believe the horizontal) vial, broke and fell out of the level. I am really disappointed with this level on so many "levels", being made with cheap materials, the tolerances are terrible and the name Stanley. What a disappointment.
