Inexpensive Drives, Last about 4 yrs of continmuous use, good for the Dollar!!
I use this for my Backup NAS and my Backup backup NAS... Super cheap, and have lasted roughly 4 years before needing to replace the old set with this set I bought. works great and a wonderful inexpensive option for a cheap NAS for home use. I use me in a Raid 6 config so in the event of failure on the drives, I generally have enough redundancy to justify the going this cheap alternative route as compared to buying NAS drives for the specific task and paying 3X more.

Great drive for NAS storage...
I have purchased 15 of these for use in my media server along with 4 Mediasonic ProBox HF2-SU3S2 4 Bay 3.5” SATA HDD Enclosures. Great combo works flawlessly with USB 3.0 giving me ovwe 60 TB's of cheap reliable storage. All Drives have functioned perfectly with the exception of two. These are reconditioned drives so I would expect a much higher return rate but to my surprise they have been rock solid. Thank you for the fast return shipping.

Great Drive For the Price
So just got it and time can only tell with renewed enterprise drives, but out of the box it booted up fine, Windows recognized it and I unfortunately chose MBR for initialization (doesn't recognize roughly 745GB since MBR only goes to about 2.2TB) since it was my first 2TB+ drive I forgot it should be GPT initialization so it can allocate the full 3TB. It was a simple fix. Started with a quick benchmark for a file transfer and noticed the drive has a fairly loud writing sound (I am using it externally in a rack mount) but I expected this, however if you aren't expecting it compared to smaller drives the noise will likely seem too loud I am fine with it especially since it is externally mounted. The transfer speed was good (its using a USB 3.1 connection to transfer from a SATA III connection) averaging 17.2 MB/s on a 3GB file and around 22.1 MB/s for a smaller 500MB file. After the first few tests I did a sector scan and there were no bad sectors and I did a quick SMART check using WMIC, the very simple way. and it returned status OK. I didn't go much more into it than that.A side note: This is a beefy drive. I haven't dealt with 3.5" drives in quite a while (mostly working with smaller 2.5" ones), but I was still surprised by its heft. The drive is quite heavy so if you are internally mounting it or plan to, take that into consideration...its not gonna be light and easy to slip in to a rack in a 5.25" or 3.5" bay

Works Great With Dish Hopper As External Storage
I read that this particular 3 TB drive will work as an external drive for Dish Hopper if used with certain powered enclosures. I am happy to confirm that this drive works well when inserted into a Sabrent USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Lay-Flat Docking Station. Even though Dish says 2 TB is the maximum capacity, this drive, when formatted by Hopper, was recognized as 2.8 GB.It is too early to tell how long it will last, but it was professionally packed in a sealed conductive bag and has a very good reputation in the computer industry. Should perform well in most applications.

ARRIVED DEFECTIVE. Noisy and fails generic testing
If you know hard drives, you know that tale-tell sound of impending failure from the read/write heads. That was evident, albeit in the early stages.I've had good luck with Seagate and WD "renewed" drives, where they passed all standard drive tests. This HGST is a terrible drive, and it was EVIDENTALLY NOT TESTED....Sure, windows recognizes it and formats it...and that likely is the extent of the seller's testing. The seller claims ~"advanced sector to sector testing with no bad blocks" - FALSE. They also claim this is a Western Digital drive. Western Digital disagrees. They own HGST, true, but HGST (Hitachi) drives are a subsidiary and are NOT Western Digital...small thing, but in hindsight, it makes me think they just copy-and-pasted a description from somewhere else, and that NO HGST drives they sell have been tested at all...dunno...fishy...BAD DRIVE...borderline if not definitive false advertising.TRUST THIS SELLER AT YOUR OWN RISK.I tested the drive multiple times, both within windows and in DOS, using both Seagate Tools and WD tools. It fails long self-test and long generic test. One of the the long generics, e.g. failed due to more that 50 BAD LBA errors in the first 12% of the test. All errors were LBA errors. These errors all occurred after a full (not quick) format.

It starts noisy, then you don't hear it at all.
I read though the reviews and was skeptical of this drive. I had to replace a failed data drive used mainly for storage so I bit the bullet on one of the cheapest, fast, high capacity drive on Amazon. When I first installed it, the drive was fairly loud copying. I wondered if this would still be loud when accessing the drive or even at idle. After a week of use, I don't hear it at all. My computer is pretty silent with barely the fans being heard and I can't hear this drive at all. There is a slight read seek noise for a few seconds when I look for something the first time the day, but after that its stays quiet. Very impressed with such a bargain. No issues so far, no complaints about the noise.

It works, was the most efficient storage per gigabyte when I bought it, but has clicking sounds.
It stores my data fine. While I was testing it before actually installing it in my computer, it did make clicking sounds. This is probably a bad sign, but I'm not storing critical data and it's rarely in use, so I'm personally not worried about it.If I was worried, I'd just buy a second one and duplicate my data, or put it in a RAID setup. This is the most cost efficient storage available, so any defects are forgivable.
