Horse chestnut seed extract works by strengthening the blood vessel (vein) walls which keeps fluid (water) from seeping out and causing swelling in legs and ankles. People with swelling in the legs and/or puffiness around the ankles might consider this remedy. I've been taking it for years with great results. It isn't going to cure anything but it sure helps. I take it before I go walking, bike riding, before work and any other exercise or exertion. Significant difference when walking up stairs! I take it nightly before bed because it stops the aching legs I almost always have during the night. If I don't take it my legs will alert me before long and it's worth it to get out of bed and take a capsule.If you use this for swelling and take it at night I think you will notice a significant increase in your morning urination. Seriously. The fluid that was in the swelling of the ankles and legs will process out and be eliminated in the urine.It's great if you are traveling in a car or plane and have long periods of time in a sitting position. It will prevent much of the swelling that often occurs in these situations.It does have a blood thinning effect that you should be aware of and should consult your healthcare provider if you are taking anti-coagulants.I have never experienced any negative side effects other than some stomach irritation and that was from not drinking enough fluid when I take a capsule. That's true of any capsule. Easily remedied.This will not cure varicose veins. It might help with the ache that people experience but it won't make them disappear.There are multiple brands out there. 21st Century is a reliable brand. I think Vitacost house brand has the best value.I hope this helps some people out there dealing with these tired, achey, swollen legs.

I give it five stars because it did wonders for my legs. It would take hours for me to get to sleep because of my leg pain and once I started taking the horse chestnut my pain was gone. But I was staying sick to my stomach and I felt like death so I had to stop taking it. If it wasn't for that I would still be taking it.

I grabbed these on a warehouse deal thinking 'horsetail', a supplement that is purported to be good for hair growth and thickness. before I got mad at myself, I decided to read about horse chestnut and am impressed, lots of possible health benefits (purported to support healthy veins in legs?). decided to give them a try. have been taking them for 2 weeks now (just 1 a day) and notice that I don't bruise as easily, and less swelling in ankles. 4 rather than 5 stars - supplement claims are so ambiguous, and it can take a long time (if ever) to see real results.

I unfortunately had to return these because I have an extremely bad effect. After taking them I got very very sick. So for me I do not recommend but if you read all of the warnings and a lot of the reviews which I wish I would have done before I purchased and you still feel confident in trying them go ahead. They do have a lot of side effects though, so be careful! As a brand, I do know that this brand is a good brand.

I have had my hemorrhoids for 40 years.and within the last year they have always seemed to stay in flamed I start taking horse chestnut 3 days ago and guess what I don't have any more you said it in Flames hemorrhoids I cannot believe they really worked and just after 3 days.

This is the perfect product for tired or cramped legs. I’ve been taking this for 30 years.
