Q: It won't link to my wifi. when i enter my wifi password, it says "wi-fi adapter commissioning error. unable to add wi-fi adapter to your network"

STB's answer is on the right track. "Before" doing the setup, put your phone on your home 2.4G network. If you start the install of the WiFi Adapter, with your phone on your 5G home network, you'll get the Commissioning Error. I believe the last step (when the Commissioning Error appears) is because your phone switched back to the last WiFi you were using and if it's 5G, you get the error. As noted too, don't pick a 5G during the middle of the setup; use the 2.4G Wifi. I almost had to return this device. Glad I read the Amazon Answers.

You do if you want to add and remove codes remotely. And if you want to add a temporary code for a specific time/dates. But I was never able to program it even with the help of their poor support.

Q: Is this necessary to purchase if you have alexa and a smartthings hub? is this the only way to connect to the lock thru alexa or via iphone/ipad?

You would not have to get this to link the lock to your alexa. But if you wanted to link the locks together or be able to lock and unlock them from your phone while not at home, then yes you will want this.

No, no fee aside from your regular wifi cost.
