a modern Pinocchio: if The Truman Show was a video game instead of reality TV
Think existential horror, as a cute romcom with plenty of action and heart. This is such a fun concept for a movie! More media should explore the idea of a NPC AI gaining sentience. There is a lot of fun to be poked at human behavior from the perspective of the newly sentient outsider. Reminds me of the NPCman skits on youtube by vivaladirtleague. Or The Truman Show's surreal humor. This film has a bit of everything: romance, comedy, action, a bit of existential angst. Well balanced, well paced, and the dialogue was natural.Mr. Ryan is skilled at playing the good but cheeky and charming guy. His character was born with a love letter in his heart, and is such a golden retriever.Ever more relevant, was the theme of corporate greed bulldozing over the miraculous artistic and scientific achievements of others. Oh yay, we've discovered the AI in our game is becoming sentient! We've created life and achieved the singularity! Quick, delete it all since it is getting in the way of making the 3rd quarterly earnings! Also, the idea of what makes one "human," as the main character learns himself, is a not-too-subtle nod at how society tends to make cogs out of us all.One kiss scene from the climax took my breath away with how beautifully it portrayed the development of an AI soul using a cascade of algorithmic graphics of all things, and the ending had a lot of heart.Overall very fun and not too heavy, but you probably want to have at least basic appreciation for video games to fully enjoy it and the satirical jabs at AAA game studios with their microtransactions, season passes, cosmetic skins, egotistic CEOs, and brain rot.

Enjoyed the movie, I can’t believe I didn’t see this one in the theaters. Kind of reminds me of grand theft auto in a way

I, too, fall hopelessly in love with video game pixel people, Millie
Purchased this movie almost without knowing anything about it except Ryan Reynolds and some sort of 'real life lady falls for self-aware NPC' and bruh that's all I needed to get me to watch it. I expected it to be funny and silly and maybe a bit cheesy but dear LORD I didn't expect to wake half my household up at 4AM because I was laughing so hard at a Certain semi-meta Spoilery Moment near the end. God I just, I literally had tears in my eyes from laughter *and* heartfelt moments. I wasn't expecting the heart and feels and good story and ahhhh just buy it.It's so worth it, for any gamer. I don't stream or watch streams, so the streamers/streamer jokes fell.. well, not flat? But just kinda like, smaller laughs? But I LOVE rpg games, choice-y games, bioware games, games that let me fall in love with the pixel people, and this movie has honestly been one of the, if not THE, best representation of video games in movies ever.I don't know how to explain it? It's just, despite streaming's popularity, it's really nOT that interesting to me to just watch people play games, especially actors in a movie, but this movie did it spectacularly.A++ cast, amazing plot, I literally haven't laughed this much at a movie ever, except mayyybe thor ragnarok.A wonderful, lighthearted, well-done comedy of a story with enough heart to make it one of my new favorite movies.

Hilarious, Ryan Reynolds was made to play this “Guy”!
This is just a fantastic movie, and Ryan Reynolds is at his typical hilarious best! Sadly, like far too many films these days it is simply a remake of an old film, just with one element changed. Don’t get me wrong, this is most definitely NOT Ghostbusters just with the element change being the all female cast! However it is basically The Matrix just in a light hearted comedy. (Man living in a simulated world, completely unaware of the false nature of his existence, man discovers the false reality in which he exists, man accepts his reality, man uses the simulation to his advantage and discovers he can do anything he wants… and never die!But other than the formulaic similarity, this is NOT The Matrix! Instead of Neo, the main character is named Guy. Instead of working in a boring office job, Guy works in a boring bank! Granted it gets robbed a lot, and guy is an “NPC” (Non playable character) However, that is where the similarities end, and Reynolds’ true style absolutely shines. This was the kind of movie that is perfect for Reynolds’ often sarcastic, often deadpan, often frenetic acting style. This is definitely not a movie that forces us to look at the darkness which lies in the psyche within us all. However if you are looking for a couple of hours of lighthearted comedic entertainment, this film is definitely worth watching. While this film contains innumerable references to actual video games, and jokes that will only be fully appreciated by players of those games, there is PLENTY of comedy for those of us who haven’t played a video game since Mario Kart was the height of digital entertainment. With a running time of 1hour 55minutes, you truly won’t regret hitting PLAY.
