Rotten egg smell is gone
Installation was easy once I got the old rod out, and rotten egg smell is gone. This replaced a 27" magnesium rod in an AO Smith 40 gallon tank. I did cut off the last section as it looked like it would have been laying on the bottom of the tank. I had to temporarily remove a shelf above the water heater but only because of getting the old rod out.

Worked like a Champ
I live in Florida, and I am on a well. We have problems with sulfur that causes a horrible rotten egg smell. It has gotten worse since Hurricane Iris. This sulfur produces Sulfur bacteria in your water heater and your anode rod become saturated with this bacteria, and the smell is horrible. Here is what I did to resolve the problem.I had a professional company come in and install a new water softener and a system that removes the sulfur before it enters the home. A sulfur block.1. I drained my water heater2. Removed the old anode rod. It was a horrible mess. See picture below. The water heater is only 5 months old.3. I poured 3% hydrogen peroxide in the water heater tank. 1 qt. Per 10 gals of heater size4. Installed this new anode rod.5. Opened. Hot water faucet near the tank to remove air from tank while filling.6. Turned water to tank back on and filled tank.7. I let tank sit for 3 hours and let the peroxide work killing all the bacteria.8. I then opened all the hot water faucets in my home to allow peroxide to sanitize the lines.9. Turned the power back on to water heater. It has been two weeks now and the hot water is still odor free.(I used an impacted wrench to remove old anode rod.)

Works great. Got rid of the rotten egg smell
Works great. Got rid of the rotten egg smell. Would buy again. Fits in an AP SMITH premium 40-gallon tank. The instructions ate misleading and say you need a 1 1/16 socket instead of1- 1/16 socket to remove and install.

Well made anode rod for limited clearance situations
Just what I needed for limited clearance over my water heater. Heavy construction should last. My old anode rod was deteriorated… my timing was good.

Ensure all srgments are straight
*This review is for the segmented/flexible option*Make sure it is completely straight with no bends! If there are twists and turns it will make contact with the top heating element and short it out, leaving only the bottom element operational; resulting in lukewarm water. We had to take it out and bend all of the wires to make sure its straight. Works great so far!

It works! Would buy again.
I had limited space for installation, this configuration was the need. I had to cut/ saw the old rod during its extraction! It's been working for several months now, and no "rotten egg" smell!

Smell improved but not completely......
I put a new water heater in and after a month I had terrible rotten egg smell.....it literally made my house smell terrible after someond took a shower. After looking into a fix i found that people were saying aluminum / zinc anode would fix the problem. I had plumber replace it with this item and we drained all the smelly water. I noticed a tremendous difference in the smell right after, but within a few days i was smelling it again slightly. NOT NEARLY as bad as before but still rotten egg smell. I dont know why....I will wait a month, just to see if it improves (maybe it needs to flush out more) and if it doesnt get better, i will just void my warranty and pull the anode out.
