Life in a French Country House: Entertaining for All Seasons

Beautiful photos
This is a lovely book with beautiful photos. I would have like more emphasis on the French country house rather than the Dior china and multiple table settings. Although they were gorgeous I would have loved more descriptions of the house and how it represents country lifestyle.

Light on useful content
I doubt many readers will find much in the way of useful content or aspirational content that isn’t, quite frankly, available online in multiple places for free. The text pages are beautifully designed I will give it that. I will not be adding this to my collection of design books to drool over again and again

The cover is the prettiest part. It’s pretty dated and lame inside.
The cover is the prettiest part. It’s pretty dated and lame inside. The photos look like they’re out of 80s magazines.

Do not waste you money
This book is filled with absolutely nothing.Grainy Photos of flowers and no real home decor picsI own many lovely decorating and garden books .This doesn’t even come close. It looks like it was thrown together so that the author can say she did a book

Some beautiful, atmospheric photographs
This book presents a very glamorous view of life in a French country house and the pictures are very atmospheric and transport you there. I guess the problem I have is that there is virtually no content in written form at all - a few sparse paragraphs here and there and a handful of recipes that I don’t think anyone could recreate as they are poorly explained. Most annoying of all is that any commentary linked to the photography is contained at the back of the book so you are forever flicking backwards and forwards. I enjoyed the images but I’m afraid it offers little inspiration beyond that, and almost everything photographed comes from Dior, so a little out of most people’s price range!

Vacuous, repetitive drivel
Oh dear. I can’t complain this book is pretentious, because I expected that. But it is very little else. The pictures turn out to be repetitive photos of flower arrangements and table scapes, and the quality is patchy. There are 8 recipes, including one for iced tea. The “inspirational tips” can be summarised: have a ‘mom’ who is best friends with Christina Onassis, then marry a billionaire. Goodness knows, if I followed that approach, I’d have a tidy house too!
