Westinghouse 0103611, 1/2-Inch Deep, Red Saf-T-Pan

Used to mount rather heavy ceiling fans on a screened in porch. You have the options for using heavy duty 10-24 or lighter duty 8-24 mounting lugs for a fan or light bracket. Comes with all mounting hardware you will need. Not much to except a cut above the standard pancake plates you get at most hardware stores.

This worked perfectly as a junction box in a limited space. I went to replace a fluorescent ceiling fixture in a closet with a new LED fixture, and discovered there was no junction box above the light! The electric wires passed through a 1 x 3 board and then the 1/2" of ceiling plaster. I removed a 3 inch round area of plaster around the wires and screwed this Saf-T-Pan to the board. The wires above were connected to the 3 wires for the LED light fixture. The light fixture was very light, so it was able to be suspended by two screws going into this Saf-T-Pan

by Westinghouse! Do not use the China made crap! Their version of this is the worst design and application I have seen yet Home Depot proudly sells them as well as Lowe’s.

These pancake boxes are a commodity but since my hardware store was out of them I figured this is a convenient way to get them to my door. Nice thing was they came with all the screws. Plenty of holes for mounting on studs. The plastic lid kept the hardware together. The only downfall is that it creates waste to have the plastic lids with them. I wish there was a more environmentally conscious way of packing. A cardboard sleeve would do the same.

Very useful. Moved a fan away from a curtain. Worked very well. Easy installation.

Ground screw was a bit stubborn and did not screw in as far as I expected but otherwise works as intended well.
