This book is very informative and has great step-by-step guides in it that are easy to follow. It also provides a break down of the equipment/tools you will need and how to use them and tells you the equipment you can do without. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is because the pics are black and white and a little hard to distinguish in same places. You can figure it out though. Otherwise, a great book for anyone looking to start taxidermy and learn it from the basics up.

Great for beginners - color photos would have been better
This is a good book especially for beginners and is even good reference material for experienced alike.IMHO nothing beats a good DVD to learn from from watching repeatedly until the content sinks in and/or watch it while working on a animal as well.As others have stated this book round have been nicer and a bit easier to understand the pics had thru been in color. For that reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 rating. It does have done good ideas in it so I say it's a worthwhile read and additional to anyone's taxidermy library.

Not what I expected, black and white pictures with poor detail. There is some useful knowledge but not worth the money .

Absolutely fantastic tool for the beginner
This book is an excellent stepping stone for a newbie! While not comprehensive, it does contain plenty of information in order to start out. It definitely gave me the confidence to go out and buy supplies and my first critter. I'd recommend joining a taxidermy forum in addition, though, as new and innovative techniques are always being developed. But all in all, this is an excellent book and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

This is a great comprehensive book for beginners
This is a great comprehensive book for beginners. It shows the logical steps in preparing mounts and the items that you need. Can't wait to see what the first squirrel looks like.

Great for Begineers
It was well printed. I couldn't not find any defects. It was very informative but could at times bore someone if they were not truly interested. It had lots of illustrations to help explain things which was very nice. This would be a great buy for someone wanting to learn about taxidermy without having any previous experience with it.

Great source of information to a beginner!
Great book. Lots of information on everything from proper field care of small game to skinning methods to mounting a bobcat! I'm just learning the craft and I think this will be a very valuable resource as I learn. I bought this with the suggested book to buy together "Taxidermy Art" which I really recommend doing especially to someone new to this like myself. I'm inspired by these 2 books and can't wait to attempt my first real mount! There could be more diagrams and pictures to show what exactly is being taught, but it is still really good. With those 2 books I believe you will have all the information and sufficient diagrams to follow as well. I'm very happy with this book, I learned some things already that I probably would not have figured out on my own with just internet info.

GOOD BOOK
Good book but the instructions are a little hard to follow. Diagrams would hve been helpful. I was a little disapointed.

Small game taxidermy book
Not read the book yet but browsed through.A bit of an unusual morbid subject but having hunted since a youngster I always wondered how they make all the fancy display cabinets with dead animals and it is a hobby and an art. It is a way to preserve the beauty of nature. I have seen on eBay many types of small mammal, insects, butterfly's, birds and fish and they can be expensive. Hunting is getting harder to do in the UK but I might try some time.

A brilliant,detailed book,ideal for beginners.
If,like me you're new to taxidermy and want a book that covers all aspects of working on smaller animals,I don't think you can find a better book,it goes into great detail and unlike some of the books I've bought, it's modern and mentions tools and chemicals that are available now (one old book I bought recently mentioned using arsenic!?)
