Personally, I don't write product reviews very often, but I had to say something about these pencils. I bought them when I realised the earth/skin tones from my Marco Raffine set weren't quite cutting it, and I needed a substitute. For me, colour pencil is a quick medium that I use for sketchbook pieces, I am an illustrator, and my main medium is watercolour. My colour pencil work is for when I don't want to get the paints out, and just need a quick idea of how I want a piece to look.I just finished swatching them, and I'm so impressed. For my needs, these are fabulous. They lay down nicely, and there is a superb range of skin tones. These probably wouldn't be ideal for realism and portraiture, but for cartoons and illustrations I think they're perfect. I'm probably going to order another pack or two, just so that I've got spares!

horrible! cheap quality, so waxy and also the shades are so dark, definitely not for caucasian skin, these are pencils for childrens, TRUST THE LOW RATING REVIEWS!!!

Ich verfalle jetzt nicht in übermässige Jubelstürme, weil Lyra ein Buntstift-Set mit Hautfarben herausgebracht hat, weil diese Art von Sets gibt es mittlerweile von vielen Firmen, also nichts wirklich Neues! Erfreut bin ich natürlich trotzdem, weil ich Gutes von diesen Farbriesen gehört hatte. Und die Stifte sind in der Tat wirklich angenehm in der Handhabung. Aber ich habe leider ein paar Kritikpunkte: Von 12 Hautfarben sind nur 2 hell und diese beiden ähneln einander sehr! ALLE anderen Farben sind durchweg nur für dunkle Hautfarben geeignet. Nichts gegen dunkle Hautfarben, im Gegenteil, aber es fehlt die Ausgewogenheit! Und es ist auch nicht so, dass es eine gute Abstufung zu den dunkleren Farben gibt. Nein, es gibt 2 relative helle (nicht sehr helle) Farben und dann geht es direkt einen großen Sprung zu dunkleren Mittelbraunen Farben hin zu den ganz dunklen. Auch sind mindestens 4 weitere Farben einander sehr ähnlich. Ich bin also über die Farbauswahl ziemlich verärgert. Weiters bin ich erstaunt, dass man bei dem Preis kein Geld mehr dafür übrig hatte, die Stifte zum Einen zu nummerieren und zum Anderen den Farbtönen auch Namen zu geben. Ich bin also hin- und hergerissen zwischen meiner Zufriedenheit mit der durchaus guten Qualität der Stifte und den obgenannten Mankos.

I have found Lyra the underdog of colored pencils! I love the smoothness and easy laydown of colour on the paper, the array of colours, etc, etc. I stumbled across the Lyra Skin Tones and what a nice surprise! These are large, but in a good way if you have a big area to fill in. The prices fluxuate up and down so you need to watch them! I am very satisfied with my purchase and would most definitely buy again!

We are making a HS Biology unit on skin color, and these are the only coloring (crayons, pencils, markers) that we have found that give us a good range of color without having a "white" and a "black". I understand not applying labels to the pencil (and therefore a person's skin). But when using multiple sets in a classroom, it becomes IMPOSSIBLE to tell them apart. We finally had to spend over an hour sorting out the colors, testing them on paper, and then labeling them with numbers to ensure that we could have complete sets that students could put back together.Even if you just buy 1 set, if you want to be able to remember which pencil you used, label them as you take them out so that you can find it again.
