NRSV, Catholic Bible, Thinline Edition, Leathersoft, Black, Comfort Print: Holy Bible

We bought the genuine leather, thinline, no thumb index anglicized edition. When I first held it, opened it, it felt like real quality-I love it!Leather, soft to touch, firm but very plyable, yet rests nicely in hand. The paper is totally fine, great type, good headings, no ghosting.The translation is good, honest and easy to read. You can always find certain words in any passage you prefer from other translations no matter what translation you settle on. This is an honest one... I'm glad I bought it. I received the genuine leather version of this Bible, with gilt edged pages and thumb indexes. I am extremely impressed by the quality craftsmanship, worthy of a bygone era, and the real leather smells just heavenly. The large “Catholic comfort” font is clear and relaxed and a pleasure to the eye, and the substrate is nice and bright. At a little over 1” thick (26mm) the Bible sits comfortably flat when opened in the hand, or on a desk. It is pleasingly tactile in every way, which encourages the reader to pick it up and read it. I have seen some complaints about the thin caliper of the pages and thus the fragility of the paper, but personally I feel this quality demands you to respect and handle the book reverently, with love and care. I have only been in possession of this particular Bible for one day, but already I know I am going enjoy using it often, the size and weight being perfect to take on the go. I will also be purchasing an old school real leather journal cover for extra added protection. This Bible truly is a gem, and a fine testament to the age old craft of bookbinding, in the modern electronic age, I think you will treasure.I hope that this review helps. The media could not be loaded. Catholics do love their bibles, but often they don't get the variety of editions Protestants do. The reason may be because of the simplicity of their approach to the scriptures, rather than a theological bias. Anyway, the NRSV has their share of critics and this is not a review of the edition. For 'everyday' reading and to have a tangible copy of the bible to enjoy as a tactile experience, this edition meets the needs well, thumb indexed, gilt edged and comfort print without 'critical notes'. It does not need to be a journaling or note-filled bible but that doesn't have to stop you for marking on it if you wish. The quality of the paper and binding should hold up but those with disabilities or tend to be heavy handed will not find it as pleasing. The finish product was all I wanted although the leather (being new) felt somewhat heavy. Has two satin ribbons (brown and red), Smyth-sewn to lie flat (will get better in time), and the 2K/Denmark type is recognisably superb. Is this a product you will say was money well spent on? For the leather quality and such: 'undoubtedly yes'. Although the item listed got cheaper by S$12 after I bought it, so do keep an eye out if the deals and exchange rates might make a difference to you. If you don't want to damage the edges and pages while carrying it around because other objects get stuck into them while in your bag, I suggest getting a simple sleeve (cloth bag or such). May the love of the Word and its message bring delight to you with your use of this item, whether you like it in any of its other finishings eg. hardback, paperback or imitation leather.

This is a very nice thinline Bible. It is hard to find a genuine leather Catholic Bible being published today! This feels great in the hand, nice for carrying around! It is very flexible, but not floppy so it is easy to hold in one hand. The paper is thin as it is with all ‘thinline’ Bibles. There is show through as there is in almost all Bibles, but the text is line matched and bold which keeps the distraction down to a minimum! The print is size 10 and the text is well spaced! There are also two ribbon markers and 8 color maps in the back. The NRSV Catholic translation is Anglicized (British spelling of certain words.). This is a beautiful Bible and a joy to read from!
