How can you mount these with door casing, not flush?

I had to mount mine on the top of the door as I have a casing around my doors and they would not work on the side.

our daughter sneaks out all the time will this help keep her indoors?

No, you would not want to use these as a door chime, because, (1) they do not make a pleasant chime, they make an irritating noise, and, (2) when they are triggered, they make the irritating noise until you turn it off. But, they do make good door & window alarms..=
