I bought this to rework a bunch of production boards and needed a hot air rework gun that had more control and more heat than the average rework station. This worked great for me. I especially liked the multiple quick change tips. Good quality and most of all very quiet.

Disclaimer: I waited a few months to write this just to be sure about my review, so bear with me.I got rather fed up with the incredibly slow iron heating time with my own Weller iron (45W) and wanted something that would at least be faster. I'm an EE and have worked with *very* expensive rework stations and know a quality setup when I'm holding one. I was skeptical at first considering how much more expensive other reputable brands are for just a soldering iron package, but this is one of my most favorite purchases now! I got my wish and an awful lot more with this package (4040-PRO-X). This iron will hit 400° in 32 seconds for the second-to-finest tip. The hot air reaches the same temp in 10-12 seconds. The sleep function for these is definitely helpful and is usually only about a 5 second turnaround time to reheat the iron. I've used the "quick change" feature of the air gun tips and it does have significant usefulness to it. Highly recommend to any serious hobbyist!Drawbacks:- The sleep mode timer is a little difficult to change as others have pointed out, but it's nothing to really get hung up on.- The sleep mode is triggered in the presence of a magnetic field for the air gun (I'm assuming the soldering iron uses a different tactic) so there have been a couple times where I've tried to set magnets in plastics and it becomes mildly difficult to find the sweet spot. This is of course handy for any other occasion because the supplied dock station for the iron and air gun comes with an embedded magnet, so you have two options to rest the air gun and force it in to sleep mode (2nd being the unit mounted dock).- Supplied soldering tips aren't the best quality, but I'm also not easy on my tools.- Supplied solder sucker....works....but it does like to come apart rather easily and often accidentally. There are better out there, but for a "free" bit of swag with this purchase, I can't complain.All in all, I would buy another one again even if this one gave out. Even if all this did was heat an iron, it's still a great machine!

I have an X-Tronic soldering iron from years ago, and still use it, but I wanted a hot air station. Found this thing and got it. Works great.

Heat gun and Solder Iron work well but Solder tips did not last the project.

The media could not be loaded. The air pump motor makes the metal side panels vibrate, and it makes a loud noise

My purchase of the X-Tronic 4040-PRO-X for a second repair station was a great move, Quality product at a very fair price. Air flow form the hot air is adequate, it comes with several nozzles, I only wish they had a larger selection to accommodate larger QFP's like some other manufactures. I spoke to customer service and they were very interested in my comments about their products (we currently have 2) it is a nice change from today's companies to feel that the manufacture listens. Once placed back in the holder it cools and goes to sleep. Once lifted it again wakes for the next process.The soldering iron is what is expected, it heats quickly and goes to sleep after inactivity but wakes up immediately. I have no major complaints about this product Outside of the unavailability of larger hot air adapters. I recommend it to anyone doing repair.

The soldering iron worked great held Temperature no fluctuation and reworked hot air was spot on!I would recommend this unit !

I actually own an X-tronics 3020 solder station, and have quite liked it. I needed a hot air reflow option for some PCBs and decided to stick with the brand. They really are quite good. My 3020 is now my "backup" soldering iron, as this 4040 has both the hot air and soldering pen. Both work very well.I've mostly used the hot air at ~250C for putting ICs on my PCBs with solder paste. The air control works very well, easily able to tune it down enough so even an 0402 SMD doesn't fly away, but the heat still hits the board and melts the solder without issue. I've used the pen a few times and it works every bit as well as the 3020. Both have great temp control, decent tips/ends for starting out or for advanced users.Really, nothing but great things to say about X-tronics products so far.
