GREED got to me.
Like the 24x zoom, so got itBad:No manual controlGood:Cheaper than the SZ16 and SZ31 - both also 24x zoom camerasBiggest quibble:The spot-metering doesn't seem as spot-on as the Nikon P310I know the p310 has a much shorter zoom rangeBut even when I spot-metered across the same lens range, the pictures do not have the kind of highlight/contrast I get with the p310Also, the p310 has a small circle which you can point at the spots you want to meterThe Sz14 doesn'tThe sz4 shares the same battery/charger as the Pentax waterproofI got this camera because I want to shoot some sunbirds and kingfishersI have a Lumix FZ200 with a 24-600mm f2.8 lensEven though the FZ200 isn't a big camera, it's harder to tote around everywhere than the SZ14Not many 24x zoom compactsI hear conflicting views about the Fuji but the shops won't let me field-test themConclusion:If you don't push the camera - don't go for night shots without flash, don't go for nervous birds in flight, you'll do okThe spot-metering results are not consistent, so what I do is set to high and get as many frames as I can and hope one turns out ok.

Fine for everyday shooting/family events.
Its a nice bridge camera between a point/shoot and a DSLR. I have had mine for 3 years and have not have had a problem with it. I works just fine for everyday events. I have no complaints.I'm sure that there are cameras out there with a better finished product but not for the money. This is by no means a professional camera but its better than lugging around a full blown DSLR. For Joe Public it seems to work just fine.

Do not buy
I purchased an Olympus SZ-14 camera soon after Christmas last year. I used it at my grandchildren's' sporting events during the year. I used it a week ago during an Easter Egg Hunt. Yesterday I tried to use it at a baseball game and it would not turn on. The on-screen error was "zoom error" . I contacted technical support and they informed me that it would need to be sent to the company for repairs--for a mere $85.00. I've had a Canon Power Shot for years with no such problems. No more Olympus products.

Unfortunately the camera was not working, however, the return policy was very simple. I appreciated that. Thanks
