Great read, classic gothic novel
I read this the first time when I was 16 that was almost 60 years ago and I bought it for my grandson. Who’s a freshman in college for his birthday because he loves to read and he’s open to any genre and I didn’t want him to miss this tale, so cleverly written and captivating .

Great classic
Hitchcock-esque, thoroughly enjoyable page turner. Equal parts mystery, thriller, coming of age, and romance.

This book was first published in 1938 and has never been out of print. A classic.
I first read this book when I got it from my high school library. I read it again twentyish years later. I am now reading it for the third time. Rebecca never disappoints. This is not romantic fiction or a quick book to read at the beach. It is a big fat satisfying book for people who like to read and love a great well written story.

Interesting to read the original version of the famous Hitchcock ...
Interesting to read the original version of the famous Hitchcock movie. I thought the movie was an improvement on the short story, although the story attempts to give at least some explanation of why the birds are attacking the humans. Even so, the ending feels unfinished, unresolved. It seems the birds will continue their war with mankind. It also takes place in England, not California, and the characters are not as well drawn.

Size of print
Size just ok I plan to loan it to my neighbor who is 90 and still can read. She can’t afford to buy one and can’t seem to get to the library.

Must Read
Some of gothic literatures best. Gripping, chilling, and enthralling. Exposition feels slow on the first read, but buckle in, this one’s a doozy. Guaranteed reread!

Classics of the Macabre by Daphne Du Maurier
Bizarre, sometimes creepy, these short stories are definitely different from her emotional scorchers. There's enough here to keep you awake into the early hours of morning. There's a spiritualistic thriller in Venice Italy, an apple tree that causes obsession and more, and blue lenses that see a whole other world. Then there's the famous 'The Birds', followed by an alibi that turns into a change of career, and - I'll let you read that - finishing with an art expedition to Crete with episodes that are not what they seem. Quite an entertaining collection with colorful pictures.
