Versatile and Reliable Feeder Timer
I purchased this timer / control unit from Amazon to replace the same unit that was stolen from one of my Remington feeders (made by Wild Game Innovations and identical to theirs) that I purchased elsewhere. Some of the other reviews seem to be about the timer only and some about the feeder & timer package; since I have been using six of these feeders / timers for about two years I'll review both.I run my six feeders year-round, except for three months during hunting seasons when they legally must be inactive. The motor box will accomodate a rectangular rechargeable 6 volt 10 Ah sealed lead-acid battery, and feeding twice a day for two to five seconds the battery will last at least three months before needing recharging. As for the timer / motor assembly, I have had no problems whatsoever. Just check all of the spade connections on the wiring to make sure they fit tightly and crimp with pliers if needed so the connectors don't slip loose. As other reviews have stated, the timer is easy and intuitive to use and has lots of flexibility in feeding times and duration. Unlike most timers you don't need to consult a manual to figure it out, but just in case the instructions are printed on the back of the control unit so they are always available.I really like the way the motor box is mounted on the feeder using slide mounts with wingnuts so you can adjust the space between the spinner plate and the cone on the feeder to accomodate different sizes of feed (corn, pellets, etc.). You can also leave plenty of space so that "trash" (stems, cobs) in shelled corn won't jam the opening - I have never had a jam running hundreds of pounds of corn through each of my feeders, and I've used some trashy corn. (There is nothing worse than setting a feeder up and coming back two months later to find it still full due to a jam.) The adjustable opening also makes it easy to "shut down" the feeder without emptying it - you just remove the battery and slide the box up on the mounts until the spinner plate is tight against the feeder's cone and tighten the wingnuts. The corn inside the feeder stays dry (usually - see below) so when you are ready to turn the feeder back on you just readjust the opening, put in a battery and you are good to go.As far as the 40 gallon plastic Remington / Wild Game Innovations barrel feeders, they aren't the most heavy duty on the market but I think they are versatile and a good deal for the money - you can buy three of these for the price of one metal hanging feeder, maybe even buy four if you figure in the additional cost of a winch, pulley and cable. Putting the two halves of the barrel together is a little tricky and it's easy to get the silicone rubber gasket misaligned. Due to this one of my feeders had water entry at the seam and the rotten corn was a real mess to clean out. I solved the problem by putting a bead of silicone caulk around the seam on the inside and have had no more problems with water intrusion. I would recommend doing this as a precaution on all two-piece feeders of this type. While you are at it, during assembly put a dab of caulk around all of the screw holes for the latches and hinges and you won't have any problems. The feeder tripod legs each come with four sections, and I find using three sections per leg puts the feeder at the perfect height to back an ATV up and stand on the rear rack to fill the feeder. Unlike hanging feeders you don't have to hang a pulley in a tree but you MUST place the legs on relatively level ground or the feeder will tip over. The legs will also sink into soft ground and cause tipping so only put in one of two bags of corn and push the legs into the ground to make sure everything is OK and level before filling it up. I wouldn't put more than 200 lbs of corn in, regardless of what the specs say it will hold, but 200 lbs will last several weeks depending on how often you run it.

Long lasting feeder
As long as you put a drop or 2 of oil once a year on the motor shaft and keep the corn from inside the compartment, it should last many years

I bought a couple of these as backups to some older units. Wasn’t install and program.

great buy and great upgrade to the original feeder kit
ordered this due to some moisture in my old feeder kit and i can say i am very pleased! This is a great upgrade to the original as this is all metal, already has a hole in the back for your solar panel wiring to go through as well as more options with the timer itself. i will be replacing all my feeder kits with these now as they are way better!

Don't bother with this company
I bought this to replace two other control boxes from this company's product line. It worked for about two days and quit, just like the others. Terrible customer service.....actually, pretty much non-existent. I've called and emailed....no resolution yet. I won't buy anything else from them. Very frustrating.
