Very basic but good for modernizing old flashlights
This product works well for the intended purpose, i.e., converting an incandescent flashlight to LED. I just unscrewed the flashlight, took out the old bulb, popped this one in to take its place, and screwed the flashlight back together. Turned it on and it worked. Pretty dull, just the way I like it. I've had more than enough excitement and challenges with other products.I compared the beam to several other flashlights and the 30 lumen rating seems roughly correct when tested with brand new AA batteries. It's quite an improvement on the incandescent bulb it replaced. Out of curiosity I tried batteries that were mostly discharged and the beam was noticeably dimmer, but it still gave light where the same batteries were useless with an incandescent bulb. (That's because LED bulbs draw much less current than incandescent bulbs so there's less of a voltage drop; do a web search on "Ohms law" and "Thevenin equivalent" if you want the gory details.)This is a very basic product. It's an LED bulb, period. No voltage regulation, no sophisticated optics, or anything like that. The falloff in brightness with old batteries is consistent with the fact that there's no voltage regulation in this unit. But it works fine on its own terms. Just be aware of what you're getting. At the time of this writing the price of this bulb is only about a dollar less than the Dorcy 41-2510 LED flashlight, which is a great cheap-but-decent LED flashlight. So the 41-2510 is probably a better choice if all you want is an affordable LED flashlight. The best use for this replacement bulb is if you want to modernize an old flashlight that you especially like for whatever reason, such as one that's especially comfortable in your hand or that has sentimental value.

A "must have" for any worthy flashlight.
I got two of these to upgrade a pair of military right-angle 2D flashlights (MX 991/U) and they are outstanding. If you have an incandescent light that's worthy of a few bucks to upgrade, DO SO. The military lights are built like tanks, just phenomenal things. But their pitiful light output and battery life screamed "OBSOLETE" yet I just couldn't get myself to toss them in the trash because they're otherwise so well made.Well, I put in these things and now they are brighter for sure. LED's aren't known for throwing tight long beams, especially in a non-focusable light like these, but, they now have a spot beam of equal brightness in the center "hot spot", but it's almost four times larger. So, for distance they'll illuminate things just as far, but they'll light up a much wider area. The "spill light" wide beam section is also greatly improved, lighting up things in the periphery that were once immersed in darkness. This tool now works as well as it's made AND will run for DAYS instead of the anemic and pitiful "few hours".The USGI manufacturer (Fulton) of the light actually makes a US made LED upgrade kit which includes not only the LED "bulb", but also comes with two D sized adapters so you can use the more common AA's. But, it's just over double the price, so... I got this Chinese made Dorcy LED upgrade instead. I wish it were US made, but still.. It's a great thing to have and there's not a single con to think of.The quality of the LED's light between both when viewed side by side shows a little difference (normal for LED's as no two are EXACTLY alike). Both are white for the most part, while one has a slight yellow tint in there giving it a little "warmth" like the old incandescent. The other has a hint of blue, however both are about 95% the same. This is a no brainer upgrade that will make your light brighter, work longer and will pay for itself in a few battery changes.

Better than a "regular" bulb
I have an old 2D size Maglight flashlight that I needed new bulbs for. I also have a couple other flashlights that had really cheap bulbs in them from the factory. The stock bulbs in my flashlights seemed to have an extremely short life. Not only did they burn out right away, but the bulbs would fall apart just from installing or removing them.I ordered some new Krypton bulbs and one of these LED bulbs. This was the first LED bulb that I ever bought. I don't know how long this LED bulb will last, but it's much brighter than the Krypton or other bulbs that came with my flashlights. This LED bulb puts out a lot more light and the light is much more evenly dispersed than with a regular flashlight bulb. For instance, when I shine my flashlight on the wall with this LED bulb installed, I get a large even white spot of light on the wall. If I put in a regular Krypton bulb and shine the flashlight on the wall, I get an ugly light pattern on the wall that looks like crooked rings of dim light with large spaces between the rings. The LED bulb is much better. As far as how the LED bulb is built, the metal base of it looks about as cheap as a regular flashlight bulb, but I'm hoping it lasts much longer. It fit both of my 2D size flashlights OK.If you aren't used to LED light, you'll notice that the light from an LED is much whiter (it almost looks bluish to me) than the light from a regular flashlight bulb. Overall, I like the LED light much better.
