Brilliant idea! Solves the whole problem of removing the grains for the next batch. The grains were clean and active, too.

Works great!
Started using this instead of filtering etc. I really love it. The kefir takes a tiny bit longer to make and tends to solidify or agglomerate a bit around the little cage thing, but this are truly minor problems compared to the amount of hassle the device saves me in general. Recommend.

Product Didn’t Match Description/Kefir Arrived Spoiled/Seller Took Responsibility Later
The product I received was not what I ordered. The fermenter pictured/described is 2”x2”x2”. What I received is 3.5”x 2”x2”. Furthermore, it was shipped prior to the weekend. It sat with the live kefir grains in the usps office over the weekend. The tiny amount “ice” was melted and the kefir was spoiled. I tried to save it. Four batches later, nothing but sour, spoiled product.Update: After a few email exchanges, seller replaced the spoiled kefir grains. They arrived today after two days in transit. I retrieved the package from the mailbox within minutes. The extra ice with which they were packed had melted; however, they looked and smelled okay. Only time will tell. I’m only out of one gallon of milk and time invested in trying to use the previously spoiled kefir grains.Seller also sent the correctly sized fermentation cage I ordered which I wanted for use with pint jars. For the buyer’s cooperation, I changed my rating.

Perfect container
I was very impressed by the packaging, including an ice pack which was warm by the time it got to me. Also a very generous quantity of grains. I put the grains in the container and immediately in some cold milk. Now I shall see what happens in 24 hours. I am sure that all will go well and I will enjoy some good healthy Kefir.

Nice idea, but jury still out
not sure what went wrong, but it was making me sick after a couple months. it would not grow very fast at all compared to another source. I wonder if its because of the basket, or the fact i did not strain it like the kefir I used before or what. it came in a good size and it did what it was supposed to do, so 3 stars, but again, grain size seemed to grow slowly and it made me sick eventually. I could have done something wrong. I used organic whole milk, not ultra pasteurized and it cured on a 24 hr rotation, but was pretty clumpy, very tart and too acidic. I tried more milk, less time and fewer grains, but it seemed too acidic to me. The last time I did this with another brand it seemed more alkaline and the grains grew very very fast, however, it was winter in Sacramento Ca with my first batch and summer in Los Angeles with this batch, so different conditions. Still, I wonder if the basket (which is super super convenient compared to straining daily) was the problem, and if i got too lazy and did not clean and rinse often enough. I will try this all again in the future and do something different.

It sounded like a good idea
It sounded like a good idea. But anyone who makes kefir on a regular basis knows those little grains turn into great big grains in no time at all. This ran out of room in no time at all because it's not very big then I had the same hassle - getting those grains out of there. I stopped using it - actually I think I gave it to someone else since I figured there's surely some people who might use it. It was a waste of money for me though.

Good grains.
Still making kefir. I got the grains a while ago and I have been using them everyday since and they work great. I have been able to share with friends. They like it also.
