Great Menopause Symptom Relief
I'm 51 and while I still get my period regularly, the perimenopausal symptoms I've been suffering from have been pretty unpleasant. Hot flashes, brain fog, hair loss, vaginal atrophy (which is just dryness, sorry but buck up if you can't handle the honesty), and increased fatigue. I also find I'm more depressed and while I exercise regularly, I have trouble firming up and increasing the weight I can lift at the gym when I never had those issues previously. A lot of naturopaths and functional med docs rave about the benefits of DHEA especially for perimenopausal and menopausal women (and also manopausal men). I read a few peer reviewed studies bolstering their enthusiasm: one that showed that low levels of DHEA cause increased belly fat and cognitive impairment, another that showed that supplementing improved mood and yet another that showed it helped with weight loss. That said, I also read that too much DHEA can increase the risk of certain cancers so I wanted to only supplement with a low dose and see if it was effective (mine was low to begin with, I recommend having your GP or gynecologist test yours before supplementing... I also recommend if you are a woman of a certain age that you find a gynecologist who is certified by the North American Menopause Society).I had planned to take only 10mg max but wanted to see if 5mg would make any sort of dent (I know some people take hundreds of milligrams but in my case, I worried about the cancer risk, becoming a rage machine, or becoming more masculine looking (since that's not what I was going for). In my case, I found that just 5mg has made a noticeable difference. I'm more energetic, hot flash-free, a little sharper mentally, and my mood has improved. I've also lost a few pounds without trying. My hair is a bit thicker according to my stylist. I did read a peer reviewed study done at NIH that showed women can suffer from hair loss if they are low in testosterone (even though most hair loss drugs deplete testosterone because the common belief is that most balding is caused by too much testosterone, I think it just depends...). I had read that DHEA can increase vaginal lubrication but I think my dose might be too low to remediate the dryness (but also it might not not work for that in my case)... Overall, I'm very happy that such a low dose improved things, though I might bump up to 10mg. Integrative Therapeutics is a great brand I've found (on par with Thorne) and yet this was among the cheapest 5mg DHEA supplement I could find (not many companies offer this low a dose). Hope it benefits you or that you find something else that does!

Like it!
This seems to be a good quality DHEA supplement and I personally feel best taking the absolutely lowest dose DHEA I can find. I don't take this on a daily basis, just on an "as needed" basis. For me, that translates to, at most, 2 to 3 times a week, sporadically. Other people may need to take this 5 mg dosage, or even a higher one, several times a day, for years at a time. If you need it, it can be a fantastic tool to enhance your health.I would advise caution and the vital importance of self-education to anyone using any kind of supplemental hormones (DHEA, 7-KETO, melatonin, progesterone cream, pregnenolone, etc.) and supplements that encourage hormone secretion (tribulus, etc.). DO YOUR RESEARCH, ALWAYS!!! These aren't just "vitamin pills." I get VERY bothered by health advisors who take a flippant approach to hormonal supplementation (as in, advising women to take 50 mg of DHEA on a daily basis for a long period of time). Don't do it without KNOWING what you're doing and paying very close attention to any signs of side effects. With DHEA, less can sometimes be more, particularly for women. Supplemental hormones can be greatly beneficial, but it's important to proceed with an informed viewpoint and to take occasional "hormone holidays" (i.e. a break from taking them) to keep your body's own natural production working effectively. This seems to be an effective DHEA and it seems to be enhancing my energy levels without over-stimulating testosterone or estrogen production (yes, DHEA CAN do that, if you take too much). I like this very much--it seems safe & sensible. I also modulate my DHEA supplementation by taking a daily dose of DIM, which is said to help convert harmful estrogens to less-harmful forms (too complex to go into here--see Google & Wikipedia). This is my favorite: Nature's Way DIM-plus -- 120 Capsules.I'd also recommend this book for those wishing to learn more about safely using DHEA and other supplementals: The Metabolic Plan: Stay Younger Longer.I buy this DHEA via Amazon's Subscribe & Save program; the price is right for this high quality supplement; highly recommended for those who do their research FIRST!

Perfect low dose
Just what I needed to get me through this phase of menopause. Highly recommend starting with the low-dose and gradually increasing if need be. Increases estrogen levels, so not for everyone.
