What do you get for the higher price?
The pictures compare the Lion Pro-Line counter to a cheaper generic tally counter made in China. The Lion Pro-Line is below the yellow box and the generic tally counter is under the white/red box in the pictures. Here is some of what you are getting for the higher price:1. Durability - Lion Office Products states on their website that their Pro-line model is a heavy-duty tally counter that is built with a hardened steel mechanism for durability and years of use. On the other hand, the cheaper generic tally counter without the hardened steel parts broke after 1600 cycles. If you look closely at the pictures of it, the # 1 in the first column looks a little shorter because it's partly covered by a small piece of plastic that broke off inside. It looks like one of the teeth from a gear wheel.2. Better Fit and Finish - If you use your counter for exercise or under wet conditions, you should opt for the Lion tally counter because it has a much tighter fitting case. The case on the cheaper generic tally counter has a slight gap in the middle. I stuck a Post-it note into the gap so you can see what I am talking about. The Lion Pro-Line also has a brushed stainless-steel finish that looks a lot more upscale than the shiny chrome plated finish on the generic counter.3. Robust Construction - The finger loop on Lion's heavy-duty model is thicker and more substantial, and it is attached by a metal fastener. The finger loop on the cheaper generic counter is noticeably thinner and attached by a plastic tab.4. Attention to Detail - Lion uses a magnifying lens to enlarge the numbers to make them easier to read. If you compare the two side by side, you can see a slight curvature to the lens on the Lion whereas the generic counter has a flat plastic lens. Additionally, the Phillips head screws on the generic model look a little mangled like they were over tightened. The Phillips head screws on the Lion show no signs of damage and still look like new.5. Smoother Operation - Lion's Pro-line tally counter has more heft and a much better feel to it. The clicker action is smoother and silkier, and it requires less thumb pressure to depress than the generic counter. You can decide for yourself if you think these differences are worth the extra money.

Great counter
Feels very heavy duty. I like to get things that last. This cost a little more but feel like it is quality

Typical Japanese quality product
Was skeptical when I saw the price, but this is a great hand counter. Very solid and well made, smooth action.

An excellent exercise aid
This is a great tool for keeping track of your completed sets when working out. I like the simple mechanical feel. No mushy buttons or weak beep as with an electronic tally counter. Electronics have won with stopwatches but I doubt they can do this as well. You don't even have to look at it to know your tally is recorded.

I've worked with cheap clicker counters--this one is actually nice.
I use clicker counters at my job regularly, and there's plenty of cheap plastic counters around. I wanted a nice one for myself, and Lion brand kept coming up as the best in my (very quick) research. Ultimately, they do the exact same thing and there's no practical advantage to having a $12 Lion over a $2 generic counter, but the Lion is much better made. The construction feels more sturdy, the action feels smoother on the lever and the reset dial, and the numbers are larger. The finger ring also feels more sturdy. This is a very small and easy way to splurge on a tool if you regularly use a clicker counter.

BEST FIDGIT TOY EVER
So I initially bought this to count something... but then I fell in love. The fine craftsmanship and a delightful mechanical clicky button. I keep it at my desk and often mindlessly click away. It's got a spinny knob that clicks too, and it's fun to see how many times I've pushed the button.

Solid, Functions well
It seemed a bit expensive but is working well. I only rated it 4 star for ease of use because the ring that you would slide your finger through to maintain a correctly oriented grip is rather snug and I have a medium sized hand. Plus using the ring comfortably means you have to hold it in your left hand. Will wait to see how it holds up in inclement or cold weather as I am using this outdoors.

Tally counter
I got this for a friend who counts heads at church. He said this was made very sturdy in comparison to his last one. Very satisfied.
