Great writer, making this an enjoyable read
I had heard of Brian Wood, (hence picking up this book) but this was the first book that I read of his. I liked it so much I immediately ordered the next Ultimate Volume. Like Jason Aaron, Rick Remender, and Bendis, they have been able to take characters that you know really well, and some you have no idea who they are, and actually make a coherent plot that doesn't feel like a retread of the 616 Universe, or Ultimate Universe. This X-Men universe is so far removed from the current X-Men universe and even though you feel like you are in the middle of the story, the plot made logical sense. You were able to keep track of the various characters, had a good idea of their super powers. I disagreed with the other reviewer of this book and that it is not like the other Marvel Universe stories. Wood actually takes time to develop some concepts. I agree that the art could have been a little more detailed, but I was able to differentiate the characters. It feels like they are taking chances with these stories, like the Ultimate Universe is a sandbox so that there are real repercussions for the characters and when someone dies, they actually stay dead. I would check out this book.
