A LEGEND THAT HAS EARNED ITS REPUTATION
Three of the most overused and improperly used words in the English language are "Tactical", "Hero" and "legend". Once in a while, however, something comes along that through the trials and tribulations of time wears a reputation that is truly deserved. The USMC Ka Bar is one of these.Developed in 1942 through the USMC Quartermaster's office and the Union Cutlery Company (which changed its name in 1952 to Ka Bar), this knife is still today made in America from the original WW 2 blueprints. This knife has been on the side of American military troops through WW 2, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, the Gulf, and every other conflict known to mankind. This blade is known throughout the world, and is even used by foreign military units as well. No other knife can make this claim, and with good reason. It does exactly what it was intended to do: serve as a reliable utility/fighting blade that is tough enough to handle whatever task is required. The most important aspect of a knife is its steel. The Ka Bar is made from 1095 Cro-Van steel. 1095 is a high carbon steel that's great for knives because it's strong, takes and holds a very sharp edge, and is easy to sharpen. Cro-Van means chromium and vanadium. These are added to 1095 in order to further enhance its properties. The only "drawback" is that being predominantly carbon steel it is subject to corrosion if not cared for. I placed "drawback" in quotation marks because I do not see this as a negative aspect. The positive features of 1095 steel far override this one aspect. All you have to do in order to take care of this blade is to oil it occasionally. Anyone too lazy to take a few seconds to wipe down the blade does not deserve anything this nice. This knife came to me razor sharp right out of the box. The finish is nice and even, and the workmanship is very nice. The leather sheath, overall, is decent. It's nicely marked, and is robust enough to handle some tough environments - for a while. Leather does not hold up well to lengthy exposures to humid conditions. One should apply a healthy dose of leather preservative to the sheath and the leather handle if it's going to be exposed to these conditions. In my case, I use and recommend the Spec-Ops brand nylon sheath. It's impervious to adverse conditions and is incredibly well made here in the States. The USMC Ka Bar is lightweight, yet solid, and feels very good in the hand, and the double guard is small enough that it does not get in the way during use. It is also extremely versatile: great for military applications, hiking, camping, field expeditions, you name it.The value of any item is relative to its cost and quality. In my view, the USMC Ka Bar represents a very nice value. If you want a piece of Americana that has been there and done that, and survived with flying colors for nearly a century, then you will appreciate this knife's features and history. It's well worth the $100 price. Stay safe out there, and God Bless America!

It's a k -bar
I'm a former Marine. I want to thank all of the men and woman who served in the armed forces . I haven't had a k bar since I was in the service . So I bought a knock of k bar a couple of months back want impressed . But it wasn't bad for 35 bucks I spent . But I just received this knife in the mail home run fellas and lady's , bam the real deal holy field. From the leather sheath to the knife . Excellent craftsman ship . I'm buying again . I'm a marine so I know what a k bar is . It's actually better than I expected . Razor sharp out of the box . Thanks you need to get one , or two . Wow

Awesome
I open the box in this knife is awesome. It was perfect. I thought that I might get to stay knock off of a knife but it looks original and it is the best one I’ve ever seen I would recommend this to my friends and family. I cannot wait to give this as a present, it’s going to be awesome.

KABAR
This KABAR is a well made knife. As good as my issue Army survival knife but with a longer blade. Takes a bit of honing to get a really fine edge, but it's good steel and holds it well.
