Is this satin or silk??

It is NOT silk. The tag says 100% satin... which is a type of weave, not a material. It is some type of synthetic.

Has the issue of the colors staining the pillowcases been resolved?

I would buy the color closest to white to avoid dye transfer. I just placed an order for the lightest color they have. Hoping it works out! I'll update this post. I'll also wash the cap first before wearing it. (SEPT. 2020) UPDATED (DEC.2020) Here's the truth. Even after washing the cap prior to use AND purchasing the lightest color, I still got dye transfer on my white sheets. It wasn't as notable, but I used Oxiclean and the dye came out with no trouble. However, it should be noted that this only happened when I decided to put oils in my hair. The oils caused the pigment from the cap to transfer. Takeaway: These caps are not well designed for those of us who like to mist our hair and seal a bit oil in while we sleep. These caps are also not suitable for deep conditioning over night OR putting wet hair. If the cap gets wet with ANY amount of oil or water, the dye WILL transfer. The caps are a great option for those who do not put any oil or products in their hair or like to keep their hair completely dry... But let's be real, this is JUST a surgical hair cap. You're better off wearing it outside and on the go, but don't wear it to sleep.

Can this be used with wet hair?

No.Our nightcaps are suitable for dry hair.I suggest you buy our shower cap if you want to use it with wet hair.

Is this machine washable?

It might be machine washable but bear in mind that silk should never be washed in ordinary laundry room detergents or it could damage the texture of the silk. Silk should only be washed in a soap or detergent that's specifically made for washing delicate, fine fabrics like silk. Always read the labels on specialized detergent bottles to make sure they are safe for silk.
