From the Manufacturer Who doesn't know about the famous Uhlenhaut coupe with its landmark gullwing doors? Only two prototypes of this model were built, and it was and still is a formidable street car. Today every automobile enthusiast knows what is meant by "the Uhlenhaut coupe," even though this was never an official designation. When Rudolf went to work in the morning, the whole neighborhood noticed it. This CMC model is a precision model, hand-assembled and composed of 1,817 single parts. The "greenhouse" of this coupé resembles the cockpit of a plane. The seats are covered with checked cloth fabric. True to the original, the interior is covered with red leather. The cockpit is complete with all instruments, control elements, switches and levers. Inside the trunk are two removable spare wheels, which are of different diameters, corresponding to those of the front and rear wheels respectively. The shiny side pipes, coming out of the air opening, are made of stainless steel. The cover of the maintenance opening can be removed. It is held in place by a simple but elegant magnetic mechanism. Everything is replicated faithfully to the real car. Additional features of this incredible model include: Rotary flipper window, which is integrated inside the side window, highly-detailed and angular-installed 8-cylinder in-line-engine, all aggregates, pipes and cabling included, support rod for the engine hood, hand-wired spokes, stainless-steel nipples, and aluminum rim, a fine wire mesh protects the air inlet duct of the engine, removable three-wing central locking nuts and detachable wheels. The central locking nuts are so designed that they are side-specific, and finally detail-exact rear bodywork showing the Mercedes star, the 300 SLR type designation and the D-Logo.

Beautiful replica.
This is the finest replica I have come across as something of a collector. The level of detail is really impressive, beginning at the finish and ending with the intricacy of the engine configuration, rubber wheels and the cabin interior. Gull wing doors, you name it, this model is just about perfect. Pricey as these things go, but if you want a display piece that will work as an elegant conversation starter this replica of an exceedingly rare Mercedes non-production sports car fits the bill. Recommended without reservation.

The Best Model Car
I truely admire the way CMC make their models. They are nothing but minituarized real cars. The attention to detail takes your breath away. EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT and EXCELLENT. There is nothing more to say.

Lifelike Details, Poor Execution
I just bought this Mercedes 300 SLR after being thoroughly disappointed with CMC products when I returned three different examples of the yellow CMC Ferrari Berlinetta for various defects (I've got a review for that one too). The best things I can say about CMC models is that the paint is flawless and they are richly detailed. Unfortunately, from my own experience the details are poorly executed and on every CMC model that I received and subsequently returned, I spotted an obvious defect within minutes of inspecting the models. This Mercedes was no different. After receiving my model and un-boxing it, the first thing I noticed what that the thin wheel spokes were all bent instead of straight on all four wheels and even the two in the trunk. I didn't even bother looking over the rest of the model. I'm returning this one too and am finally done with these overpriced haphazardly built CMC models. I'm pretty convinced that the positive reviews are written by individuals who are far sighted and can't see the details of these models up close because there is no way that out of the four CMC models that I received, each had a different obvious defect. For a model costing $300 this is laughable.
