Pleasant Unique Fragrances
I've burned Poe and Emerson and both were lovely. The fragrance is strong enough to fill our living room in a few minutes, and it successfully covers the odor of the latest deposit in the litterbox. I've had a chance to smell about a dozen candles in the series and found the one's for women writers to be sweeter and more floral. I like Alcott the most among them. I liked the candled names for male writers more--spicy and musky and lots of pine. Both candles that I used burned up nearly 95% of the wax which I think is impressive. The Jewel line from the same company only burns 2/3-3/4 of the wax--inefficient. It's a decent value in a candle. If you freeze the tin after the candle is burned, you can break out the wax and reuse the tin or recycle it. It's a good size for loose change or spare keys if you wanted to store them discreetly.

Cute display item; not great for scenting a room.
Purchased as a gift for a writer's new office; bought a second for my library. It's exactly what one would expect a Poe-scented candle to smell like. The label on the tin features a little author quote and looks a bit like a book spine. Neither of us have lit them yet because the travel tin candles are very, very tiny— about the size of two tealight candles sitting side-by-side. I only gave it four stars because the price is pretty steep for the size. These are cute candles for display purposes, but I wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a candle to scent a room. There's just not enough there to fill a room or even burn for longer than a one-time use of an hour or so.

My new favorite scent for evenings- John Steinbeck!
Pricey but I have been very pleasantly surprised at how long it lasts compared to other candles! I love it so much I have another one just waiting in my cart... but I havent had to purchase it yet because the first one is still going strong somehow despite frequent use. The scent permeates the space quickly and thoroughly and lingers well after the candle has been put out. Im addicted to this scent for cold winter evenings... but I know I will still be using it when the weather warms up too!

Long burn life but glass too dark
The smell is subtle and beautiful. Two things to take note of:1) the brown glass is VERY dark and you can hardly see the flame illuminating through it. Several times I’ve left if burning when I left the house because I didn’t know it was lit.2) Try burning the candle without cutting the wick first. I’m in the habit of trimming wicks and I may have not needed too — the candle burns very slowly which is a plus, but it might be brighter with a longer wick. Although I doubt enough to illuminate through the dark glass.I would buy this brand again in a lighter color but the Shakespeare scent is divine.

Love it!
I bought four different scents from the Library collection, and Mark Twain is my favorite. The scents are mostly mild and don't fill the whole room if that's what you're looking for, but I'm just happy to enjoy it burning on a side-table. Allen Poe is the strongest and that may actually fill a room. It says 'clove' on Dickens, but the Dickens travel tin that I got had a stronger cinnamon scent. The clove scent was also there but cinnamon dominated. I really like the packaging, and wish they continue this line (I saw some scents were out of stock). It's a great gift for your bibliophilic friend! I got mine from the sellers called 'Taftburners and More', and all four arrived on time, well-packaged and without any damage. One thing I liked was that these candles actually smell when they burn - certain other brand candles I tried before smelled fine when they were not burning but only had generic melting wax smell when they were lit.

Smells expensive and masculine in a refined, sophisticated way
It arrived in fairly bad shape. The beat-up box looked shabby while the candle was slightly melted. I was going to return it as it was meant to be a present for a friend and I didn't feel great about giving an imperfect present. But I had no time to get something else for my friend's birthday so decide to keep it. Not happy about the condition but it's basically a great-looking candle and smells amazing. My friend LOVES loves this candle. In the end, it was a good purchase.

Divine smell and beautiful presentation, but disappointing.
I absolutely love the ways this candle smells – it's very crisp but somehow warm. The presentation, like all Paddywax candles, is also really nice, and these candles make great housewarming/hostess gifts (I especially like the quote on this Wilde candle). However, like a lot of the Paddywax candles I've purchased recently, the scent is barely there unless you put this candle in a small room, like a bathroom. We can burn it for HOURS in our living room and barely notice a thing. So while it's nice, and I really like the smell and presentation, for the price I would not buy again. I don't like my candles to have an overwhelming scent (think Yankee Candle) but I do like them to produce SOMETHING, especially when I'm paying this much. In general, I am moving away from Paddywax candles because I've noticed this is a persistent problem. Unless you're buying for a small room or you're more focused on presentation, I would advise you to consider a different brand.

Wrong Product - Twice
I ordered the Mark Twain and Edgar Allen Poe as my first order. Upon arrival, I receive the Mark Twain and the Jane Austen due to the product being mislabeled. No big deal, went through the steps to return the product and be shipped the correct item. The 'correct' item arrived today, and again was a Jane Austen instead of the Edgar Allen Poe. Unfortunately, I will have to return this second item again and will not be repurchasing this candle because of the hassle it is to get the correct one. Quite a bummer. As for the Mark Twain, it smells great, however the burn isn't as long as I would have liked it to be (therefore, 3 stars) but I will just purchase a larger size next time. The Mark Twain I give 5 stars for scent - Jane Austen I give 2 (not at all my style, a very strong perfume fragrance - but I can see how many would enjoy it) -- Hence the 3 stars for scent. 1 star for giftable due to the product being incorrect. Thus, moving forward I'll be going through the Paddywax website in hopes of receiving the correct item.

Paid for large candle, received small one.
The smell was amazing but I paid £22.50 for a 16 ounce, tall black jar candle. I received a 6.5 ounce small candle in a box and no explanation or reply from seller so returned.

Beautifully presented and a gorgeous smell!
This is a beautiful candle. The presentation box makes it an ideal gift, and the container itself is lovely; I plan on keeping it once the candle is finished. When not in use, we leave the candle in the box with the lid open and it still gives off a lovely, subtle smell. When burning, the smell is obviously much stronger but definitely not overpowering, nor does it smell artificial like many well-known brands. I'll definitely be buying from Paddywax again.

Smell lovely
This is a lovely candle and smells beautiful. I did think it was a bit smaller than I had expected but happy with it all the same and my brother loved it.

Wonderful candle - love the design and scent
Ralph Waldo Emerson Cedar & Wild Fern scent is incredible, not overpowering nor too faint. I'm very sensitive to fragrance and I don't get the cheap perfume headache as I do with some low-quality candles. From the scent to the jar to the quote, this candle is quality and perfect for a gift or to keep for your own home.
