🎥 Elevate Your Adventure: Capture Every Moment, Wind-Free!
The Foam Windshield Housing Windslayer is a specialized windscreen designed for GoPro Hero 7/6/5 cameras, effectively reducing wind noise for enhanced audio capture during outdoor activities. Made from eco-friendly, durable sponge material, it offers a precise fit while allowing easy access to essential camera functions.

It works.
We'll get the negatives out of the way first. The description claims that it 'allow you easily to get access to all function port and buttons, battery doors, memory card, lens etc.' This is incorrect. Once the foam is in position you can see the rear screen and touch the mode and shutter buttons, which is all that you need in practical use. However, if you want access to the battery doors and memory card the only way to achieve it is by taking the foam off, so you are going to be taking it off fairly frequently. As supplied, and as the illustrations show, the camera has to be removed from whatever it is mounted on before the foam can be put on the camera. I didn't like this, and therefore I put a single cut in the foam at the top right of the mounting square for the base, running to near the bottom right of the rectangular hole for the rear screen. This makes the foam actually extremely easy to put on and take off without removing the mounting and probably without impacting it's performance. However, the cut could probably be held in position with tape or perhaps velcro if necessary. I am a cyclist and have tried the foam in position with a light breeze, plus the 15mph or higher wind that I create by riding along. I noted where a distinct breeze was hitting me and this was either not noticeable or barely noticeable on the recorded film. Certainly the Hero 7's recorded sound is far better with the foam than it was without it, and as such this item can be thoroughly recommended. The only reason I have not given five stars is that time will tell how durable it proves, but the manufacturer's claim that it is of good quality seems to me accurate, and the cut I mentioned earlier will mean stretching it less than would otherwise have been the case. I had the Hero 7's sound set on Auto, for those who are interested, but have seen claims that a foam baffle allows the use of the Stereo setting.

Surprisingly good results
I bought this after doing a long kayaking trip with a GoPro, the footage of which was almost ruined with constant wind noise.I did a bit of research and saw one of these as a potential solution. From my work as a sound engineer I didn't expect much from just a foam wind shield, but it was only cheap so I gave it a go. Was blown away (excuse the pun!) by how effective it was. I guess because the mics on a GoPro are so small, the thickness of this is enough to make a substantial difference. So I went back out in the kayak to a local spot that usually gets a lot of wind. I did a few minutes without the wind-slayer, then a few minutes with. Back in the studio the verdict was clear. Without it the wind noise was noticeable, annoying and amateur sounding. With it on the wind noise was almost completely killed. With a particularly strong gust you could still hear a little bit of a rumble, but nothing I couldn't edit with a bit of low frequency cut. The fact I was able to sit in the wind on a kayak, talk to camera, and that be perfectly useable professional sounding video has earned it 5 stars.Another bonus of this is that it protects the camera if you drop it. I've dropped one on a concrete floor before and dented it, but this would have protected it.

It kind does the job
It does reduce wind dramatically. However you can still hear a considerable amount of wind. It seems that the much needed holes in the bottom for camera support, are to close to the microphone, and it will cause turbulence.

Did a great job at reducing wind noise
I bought this for my GoPro hero 7 because the wind noise in the slightest breeze would make the audio unusable in my videos, but this does a great job of cutting out that wind noise. We took it on a recent trip to San Francisco and held it out the side of a tram and despite the air rushing past, could hear our voices perfectly.

Very effective product
I bought this for my son to improve the quality of the mountain biking videos he posts on social media. The difference this piece of sponge makes to the sound quality is astonishing! No more wind noise to drown out the other audio as we hit the trails. The cover fit his go pro 7 perfectly and slipped over the camera really easily. He is very happy with the results.

Only down side was changing the battery.
Bit of a fiddle to change the battery but got used to it.Used toboganning in Finland ...... no wind noise at all. I think it helped protect the go-pro from the cold too (-20°C) so the battery lasted longer.

It just works
Had previously bought a similar item from an online auction site which didn't do much to reduce wind noise. As soon as you were past 40mph on a track day the wind noise blew out the audio. With this windshield at 60mph the wind noise is there but vastly reduced. Feels much thicker than the online auction site version I bought. Looking forward to having usable audio in my videos from now on.

A must needed accessory to have.
Really good quality and cheap accessory to have for the GoPro. Took out all the wind noise on quite an open fast run on the bike, but let the microphones pick up the trail noise and talking. It didn't interfere with any of the button controls, touch screen or the camera lens. Really recommend if you want to get good footage and audio at the same time, without having to buy an external mic.
