Wrestling superstar The Rock reprises his role as the warrior Mathayus in this movie spin-off from 'The Mummy Returns' set 5000 years ago in the Middle East. Sent on a mission to assassinate Cassandra (Kelly Hu), the powerful sorceress advisor to King Memnon (Steven Brand), Mathayus is captured and left to die in the desert. Managing to survive, the brave warrior returns and kidnaps the sorceress, but as he makes his escape, he is struck by an arrow dipped in scorpion poison...

Early Dwyane Johnston effort delivers in popcorn fun if very 2002
Building off his extended cameo in 'The Mummy Returns', this was Dwayne ''The Rock'' Johnson first leading role and was a box office hit [making 3 times it's budget] and probably did quite well on DVD given both the popularity of the Mummy series and wrestling [with WWE' Vince McMahon producing] at the time.If the first two Mummy films were Universal Horror/Indiana Jones with a late 90's/early 2000's feel, this does the same for 'Sword and sorcery', especially Arnie's Cohan the Barbarian. Co-written by Mummy director Stephen Sommers [alongside Twins' William Osborn and X-men's David Hayter], the plot is a pretty straight forward adventure which doesn't take itself too seriously [shown by the cheesy lines], nor outstay it's welcome at only 90 mins. Director Chuck Russell [Erasure] keeps the action entertaining among the cliches, book ending the film with a fun short prologue and an entertaining finale. Bar some iffy CGI, the production holds up with good desert locations. While Johnston is undeniably 'green' compared to his more recent films, he's still a fun, charismatic lead, showing hints of his future success. Michael Clarke Duncan [from one of my favorite films, The Green Mile] brings some extra credibility ,even if he mostly confined to the 3rd act. Grant Heslov [better known now as a producer on films like Argo] is decent comic relief along with Bernard Hill [Boys from the Blackstuff] as an inventor. Steve Brand is a weak villain while Kelly Hu is at risk of being mere 'eye candy' in her reveling outfits, but is likable and her psychic abilities [her name is the very creative Cassandra!] does give her character a little complexity.Johnston would return to somewhat similar territory with 2014's Hercules [by which time his acting had developed well] and the film's brand name was surprisingly strong enough to spawn 4 DVD sequels. The tone of the film and it's soundtrack does date it somewhat but it's a fun 'turn your brain off' glorified B-Movie which is an entertaining way to spend a escapist evening.

The Rock's performance is GREAT! Randy Couture shows this movie at parties when he wants people to leave
How can you not like this movie? It's corny, cliche'd, and action packed. It doesn't over-play the hot chick thing, it doesn't even over-play The Rock! Production values are high, and the cast of seasoned character actors is perfect. The Scorpion King 2 however, is pretty bad. Couture's acting has gotten much better since this movie (thank god he wasn't this bad in Expendables) but he turn out to be a mind-controlled goon, so the bland delivery and complete lack of anything resmbling giving a &^%@# works just fine in the end. But the rest of the movie did nothing to redeem this. The greek character is fun, and the chick is hot, but not over-played. At least you got THAT right movie. (Except there is a girl-fight... ugh!)VERDICT:If I could destroy half this disk and keep the Dwayne Johnson half, I would. Still, it's totally worth the cost.

Great movie? Or greatest movie?
This movie is Lawrence of Arabia meets Terminator 2, but manages to top both. It is really a story about all of us. A young man (The Rock starring as himself) on a journey of discovery is searching for meaning in life, and finds it in the world of scorpion breeding aficionado. When The Rock's (played by The Rock) collection of scorpions is stolen, he teams up with the Arab Pauly Shore and rides across the desert to seek revenge. Does he find it? Or does he find more scorpions? Tune in and find out.

Great movies. Enjoyed the movies from the very beginning ...
Great movies. Enjoyed the movies from the very beginning to the end. Lots of fighting action with a little of fantasy thrown in.I thought that all the actors did a find job playing their characters. After watching these two movies I went ahead and got thethird one. Hopefully if the third is as good as the first two I'll order the fourth.
