I was just "pissing by the window"...
I discovered "Allo, Allo" back in London in 1995. It was already re-runs because it was a very successful TV show. The show tells the story of Rene, a bar-restaurant owner in Nouvion, a fictitious town in the Normandy region of France during the German occupation of WW2.Rene has pretty cordial relations with German soldiers, being often clients of his bar. In the same time, he is one of the leaders of the French resistance. From a pretty grim story was created a very funny sitcom. Rene is by any stretch not a good looking men. He is fat, bolding and yet, he is the target of all female's attraction in the serie.... "Oh Rene!!!" Is one of the many catch phrases...Here is another one, from the top of my head:"Listen carefully because I will only say this once....", "What?", "I said, listen very carefully because I will only say this once..."Everything is in English in the spoken language of the serie but in reality, 3 languages are involved: English, from the downed pilots in need of a rescue, German, for the occupying force and indeed French, since it happens in France. In order to make us believe the barrier of languages, the creators emphasized greatly the accents and in the case of the English spy acting as the local policeman, a butchered English, supposed to reflect a butchered French...As my headline suggests, "I was pissing by the window" is a butchered version of "I was passing by the window", supposed to display the poor control of French by the English spy... Confusing? Not as much when you watch the serie.A lot of the humor is language based and situation based. Most of the characters are pretty caricatural but very funny. The serie ran for many years with the same actors with a great success....I kept on watching it back in the Netherlands since it showed the english shows in English (French are dubbing the shows).I was glad to buy this DVD version to have the possibility to rewatch the serie once in a while. In conclusion:5 stars.

First a warning
First a warning, the version in the image has the least protective packaging I've ever seen. three of the disks were scratched, though not beyond the ability of my repair kit, and several of them had slipped down into the packaging getting stuck. I suggest keeping them in a different place if you buy that version. The series itself is hysterically funny. Quite possibly the funniest Britcom of them all. The comedic timing of the cast is impeccable. From the escape of LeClerk on his prison bed being towed down the street while playing an accordion to the Fallen Madonna with the Big Bobbies, this series will have you rolling. It deserves the 5 star rating.

Review without Spoilers - Pros & Cons
'Allo 'Allo! (1982-1989, 1991-1992) is a British sitcom television series, created by David Croft & Jeremy Lloyd starring Gorden Kaye, Carmen Silvera, Guy Siner & Richard Gibson. Here are the pros & cons of this series as I see it, I hope this helps you.Pros:1. The German character Private Helga Geerhart acted by Kim Hartman is well doneCons:1. I love British humour, but I just don't find this series very funny & I rarely laughed, I just don't find the French characters funny at all2. I could only watch a few of these a month, or else I would dread watching them3. Very repetitive

Product okay so far; packaging...not so much.
This is the most “mixed-bag” review I’ve had to write on Amazon. “‘Allo Allo” fans will like that all the episodes and the 1991 special are included, at a reasonable price—it’s a good deal. On the minus side, the light cardboard case really isn’t protective enough for the 16 discs it holds. When I opened the outer package (a lightly padded mailer envelope) the dvd box was squashed on one end; it looked like it had been stepped on—not an impressive beginning. On opening the cardboard case, most of the dvds were rolling around loose and out of order. None were cracked—which is kind of amazing considering the way the case was crushed—so rather than dealing with the hassle of sending them back immediately, I’m playing them in order, hoping none of the discs are damaged. So far, they seem ok, but there are a lot more to test. The discs menus are a bit confusing to read—each dvd is labeled only with the (British) Series # and disc #, while the actual episode titles show on the case using the (U.S.) Season #. So, you need to pay attention not to mix up their order. Another plus that deserves mention is the notice that’s attached to the outer shrink wrap on the package: a reminder that the DVDs are Region 2, and require a player that will accommodate them. That will prevent buyers who may have overlooked that, and want to return it, from opening the package. Hopefully all the discs in my set will be undamaged—other than that, you get a lot of entertainment for a decent price. UPDATE: despite the disarray of the discs in the packaging, they all played fine. A good collection for fans.

Funny.
I used to watch this show on PBS. I missed it. Be careful though because a lot of shows are on a different format. The DVDs are made somewhere else in the world and do not use the same format as North America. Use a multi regional DVD player.
