Home-based baking is one of America’s best-kept business secrets. This sleeper industry offers even novice bakers the opportunity to bake from home for profit using tried and true recipes and equipment already on hand. And yet its many rules and how-tos are so elusive that few people out there who love to bake and dream of taking their products from the kitchen to the market actually end up doing so. Great Book...Just What I Needed
This book was just what I was looking for. I have been researching starting a home based bakery for a few months now and this book really helped me. It brought up things that I did not think about and elaborated on things I had questions about. But I would suggest reading, as a companion book from the same series, HOW TO START A HOME BASED BUSINESS by Bert Holtje & Susan Shelly. It is the more technical side of starting any home based business. The two together are the perfect combination.

Very informative
I would highly recommend this title. In starting a home-based bakery it had page after page of interesting and informative tips. A must read.

Better books than this one available
Although a decent book, as a person who read all of the home based baking books before opening my own business, I will have to comment that the books by Mimi Fix are much more all-encompassing. Fix's book alone is excellent, and in my opinion, the best in overall information. She even shares her best recipes. But the CD-ROM that is included with Ms. Fix's book is a wealth of information and valuable forms to get your business started, making the combination by Fix a great value. I am now reading and enjoying Fix's second book, filled with her tried and true recipes. The tips alone have saved me so much time and money, even though my business is doing well.

Great information
This book is full of information but it is not very positive. We all understand that opening a home business requires a lot of work. The author really pushes this point and is a little discouraging to the reader.

contrary to the negative reviews, its good
This was the fourth book I read on the subject of creating a home based baking business, so I already knew a lot of the information in the book. I skipped over most of the "how to start" stuff and read more into ideas for marketing, promotion, reviews of other business owners (very helpful) and her own opinion and experiences starting a business. There are always different things you can learn from someone else's experience that were not mentioned in other books.

How to Start a Home-Based Bakery Business but only if you're American and want to be a full-time baker...
This book is not fun. There are fun ways to write a book about starting a business, this is not one of them. Secondly this book has a lot of information specific to North Carolina and the US and isn't really relevant to other regions although, to be fair, it may still prompt you to think about it. This book is better suited to a baker who perhaps wants to do a full-time business. A small time baker who wants to start at home selling cakes in a market isn't really going to be interested in product recalls, she would have been better off going through types of bread packaging and baking equipment, ovens and thermometers, stuff EVERY baker needs no matter how large or small their venture. I gave this book three stars because although it has given me some good ideas it's been a chore to read and I've not really gleaned more information than I had before I read it. To be honest, a generic business book and a recipe book would do the same thing! This book is for someone who is absolutely clueless, in which case, you probably shouldn't be starting any business let alone a bakery one...
