A worthy reference book
This book is fantastic. It has a lot of pictures and history of hairstyles relevant to the time and also offers some tips on how to accomplish the classic cuts. I don't think that I'd be able to accomplish a haircut solely using the instructions in this book but if you are a visual learner you could probably figure out the many angles and sections to get it done. It is a a great reference book to have if you are trying to do these fashions and gives you a thorough outlook on styles of the times.

Absolutely brilliant!
I was fortunate to be able to review a copy of this book before ordering it. It is that priceless gem, a "how-to" manual that covers every aspect of recreating vintage 20s-30s hairdos or using them as inspiration for new "vintage-inspired" looks. Most of these books cover hair setting, but that's about it. This one covers everything from haircut to set and finishing. It's wonderful! It is also that rarest of things: a priceless resource, modestly priced!

Awesome, But More of a Historical Resource Than A How To For Modern Gals
While this book does show exactly how they achieved the styles in the old days, we have more modern methods that are less likely to damage your hair and more practical for our modern lifestyle. For example, stove heated curling irons are gonna be bad news for most people. I am old enough to remember my grandmothers using methods described here such as setting paper and hairpins and the only reason it worked for them is because they got a weekly "set and style" at a salon. I don't think washing your hair once a week is gonna cut it for busy gals sweating at the gym etc. and we have better product than folks used in the old days to keep a style in place. That said, I love the pictures and illustrations! Even if we now get the look differently, this book can still be helpful in showing a hairstylist a cut we vintage fans might be interested in.4/11/2016 Edited to add: I ended up giving this book to my hair stylist. I love vintage styles and the diagrams would be so helpful in helping her to recreate these styles on me. This would make a great gift for any other stylists who love the 1920's as well.

More than expected...
If you're looking for a popular hair style guide of the 20s and 30s, this for you. It provides images, history and a how-to to create the styles yourself.

Diagrams aren't very clear
I should have read reviews before buying this- an online friend recommended it to me and sent me a link, so I bought it trusting them about how easy it would be to read. There's a lot of information, don't get me wrong, but the pictures and diagrams are either Hollywood glamour shots, or hand-drawn diagrams that are small enough to be hard to read, let alone understand. There's some good stuff in here, but overall it's not the best that's available.

Art Deco Hair
I bought this for my friend who is a hairdresser. It is for Christmas so she has not seen it yet but I flipped through it and think it is very good and interesting.

No Sources Included
This book is full of historical excerpts, photos, and diagrams. They are an interesting selection but none of the sources are listed. There isn't even captions on most of the photos. This makes it impossible to know where the information came from (US, Britain, Canada?), who the photos are of (I recognize most of the Hollywood stars photos but I wasn't sure of a few of them), and what exact year the hairstyles are from (there is a HUGE difference style-wise between 1920 and 1929!). Not very useful for someone looking to learn on anything more than a very surface level, but I suppose fun to flip through if you have an interest in the 1920s and aren't very academically minded.
