Human Action: A Treatise on Economics

A word of criticism about the AUDIO version specifically: there are no timestamps or chapter markers, and in such a huge book you want to be able to jump around, revisit certain parts, maybe switch to the text version for some parts and then come back. All of this is practically impossible owing to this deficiency.None of this can make the book anything less than 5 stars though. It's a masterpiece and I wish I had read it earlier in life.

Probably the most well-deserved 5 stars I've ever given. Where do I even begin. This book is LONG. Well worth it if you are passionate about the subject material. Whether you agree or disagree with the fundamental ideas of austrian economics, Mises makes you think and seek counterpoints to his arguments. If you are a staunch interventionist, this book will make you sympathize with laissez faire ideals. If you are already a sympathizer, this book will likely capture you. This is a truly comprehensive analysis of free market fundamentals and errors of interventionism. Mises touches on many of the same points that he talked about in the Theory of Money and Credit, but this is only a small portion of the book. Suffice it to say if you are willing to endure an undertaking as large as this book, you will surely be rewarded with a deeper understanding in catallactics, praxeology, and the "myths" of interventionism and socialism.

This book is likely the best thing I’ve ever invested in. Mises is a ferocious thinker - he wastes few words in this tome of a book and he dispels myth after myth. While few people will likely have the patience to read from front to back, this book builds inexorably upon itself to give the reader powerful insights into human action, economics, and the siren call of government intervention.Can not recommend this more highly. If I could recommend people read one book in their lifetime, it is this.

This is one of those rare volumes that changes readers lives. It introduces a systematic method of analysis in sociology which proves that capitalism is humanism applied in practice. It also provides the most devastating destruction of socialistic ideas and clearly presents tragic consequences of applying them in society. Whether national or international, application of socialism always leads to the same outcome: liquidation of human beings. This book will show you that "novel" ideas one is hearing from enlightened politicians (universal basic income, microcredits, local sustainability, wage equalisation, third way, capitalistic production under government regulation, free college, minimum wage, rent limit, social justice) are nothing new and cannot bring anything good. Every one of those has been proposed in some form before and has been systematically and convincingly shown to have cataclysmic economic consequences which negatively impacts every member of society.There is a reason why this volume is not taught in schools: once a thinking person is exposed to Mises seminal writing, there is no going back. If answers absolutely every question you might have had related to political and economic cooperation. Ever wandered why some nations are poor and some are rich ? Want to know why it is normal and expected for the 1% to hold 99% of the resources, and why this is in your personal best interest? Do you want to know why socialism cannot function even if it was run by angels ? Wandered which system of cooperation is best for huimans as they are (humanistic system of cooperation) ? Mises will answer those questions and more in a way that will change the way you are looking at the world.A word of caution: Mises writes consequential sentences. This means that entire volumes can be written to expand on the consequences of some of his sentences. This book is not for the uninitiated, but it is well worth a read.

Es un libro fundamental, más que nada para aprender a razonar en economía. Se trata de una obra difícil, motivo por el cual no es reducible a simplezas como las de la pseudociencia marxista y las ideas pseudokeynesianas (no el análisis keynesiano, que es válido en determinadas circunstancias), que son ideologías simplonas que sirven de alimento al populismo. Lamento no haber conocido esta obra en mi juventud, cuando empecé a estudiar economía.

The book! If you can read only one book on economics, without any doubt you cannot miss this. Von Mises analyses in deep the dynamics of economics, with absolute logic without stop to the first order of consequences. As you progress in the reading, historical economic events began to fit in Von Mises vision. It really gives the tools to understand how Economics works.

Wird Ludwig von Mises dereinst für die Ökonomie und die Wissenschaft vom menschlichen Handeln als das Genie gelten, als das z. B. Darwin im Bereich der Biologie gilt? Sie können sich Ihre eigene Meinung bilden, wenn Sie das Buch lesen. - Und wenn Sie von Mises lieber in deutscher Sprache lesen, dann empfehle ich Ihnen sein Buch Nationalökonomie.
