Clannad: The Motion Picture
C**Y
Clannad Theatrical comes to the US!
Like Air the motion picture, created by Toei Animation, this is a nice retelling of the Clannad series, based off of the original Visual Novel by KEY/Visual Arts. Overall, this is a nice classic anime film about love and drama and is highly reccommended if you watched the tv series. My only complaint about this film is how tomoyo and kyou's personalities are different and kotomi only makes a brief appearance. Also, Fuko, Yukine, Ryou and Misae don't appear either which makes me sad because I like Yukine! If you haven't seen the TV series, this movie will probably be confusing, plus it doesn't have the same kind of emotional feelings you feel when watching the series. All in all, a great anime movie. Opening theme song is Mag Mell from the original visual novel and the ending credits play "Small Palms" and transitions into a song called "Marmell (I think)" and the upbeat happy, new "Dango Daikazoku!" A textless ending special feature will probably be pointless though since the credits play like Air the motion picture in which you get a black screen with occasional imagery framed in every 10 seconds or so. Haven't seen the english version yet, but it looks like it'll be great! Also look forward to Clannad After story with its new english dub and check out one of Sentai's newest releases, Koihime Musou.

Pretty Disappointing.
I have watched Clannad Vol. 1 & 2 as well as the After Story 3 times through and I absolutely loved it and fell in love with all of the characters, story line & even the animation; but after watching this movie I was really disappointed.First off the characters:Tomoya was more so the burden and hardly stepped in to help Nagisa with the drama club or play and there just wasn't the cute attraction between the two like how it was in the show.Nagisa was more assertive and confident then Tomoya which was the complete opposite of the show; that really gave a whole different feel to the story which I fell in love with.As far as the other characters (the ones they decided to put in the movie at least!!) I would say they were pretty close to what you'd expect.Secondly, the story line:I do understand that they were trying to fit the whole story into one movie but my goodness did they slaughter it! All of the cute moments that were in the show are non-exsistant and were replaced by seemingly odd senarios if you are familiar with the show at all. Everything was off from the way they met to the way he decides to be a father to Ushio.Don't get me wrong, I know it can't just be the exact same thing as the show but I would have preffered it if they had just played off those memorable moments rather than just completely change them. Also, the ending left me feeling sad and empty with little to feel good about.Lastly, the animation:It takes some getting used to, it didn't "feel" like Clannad. If you were familiar with the show you will definetly be thrown off by how much it was changed. (Personally felt it looked "cheap" in comparison.)I give it 3 stars mainly because I am a devoted Clannad fan and as long as it has the name I can't just turn my back to it completely.

I bought it used and good, it still looked and worked brand new and there was no way to tell it was used. Very nice and clean, as for the movie it was very good and made me cry and laugh and everything. I think it is needed tho to watch the anime show before watching this movie or you will be slightly confused, not by much but I'd still suggest buying the whole collection it's such a great story!!

Great Movie
This was a great movie in it's own right, but I found it lacking when compared with the series. I would recommend this to someone who doesn't have the time or desire to watch the entire series but wants a look into what Clannad is all about. If you have read through the Visual Novel you will notice that this presentation of the story is much different than any of the possible story arcs, where the series was fairly true to the primary arc with added events from in the others.

Series First. Then Movie. That Order
I'll preface this by saying this movie is not bad by any stretch. I would strongly recommend to anyone that you watch the Clannad series before this movie. Though it covers the same ground, the series just has so much more time to do it. The film as it is has to lessen the depth of its characters and cut out and skim through certain plot elements and story points. It's just hard to fit everything into a timeframe as limited as a feature film. Like this it is essentially a two hour summary of the series. In the end, I enjoyed the film because I have seen the series. I am able to feel the same things I felt when watching the series because I've been there and hail the series as a masterpiece. Going into it blind, there's enough holding it back to give it a bad grade, but if you are familiar with the story and characters you will have a good time with it.

Clannad
She is so unique in her character but her physical body is weak. I cried from all the suffering and so many days she missed school and had to retake the same class again to graduate. She had no control of her physical condition... What a sweet and adorable young lady!

Great, but not what I expected
I thought this DVD would be a movie based after the first series, but it's not! This movie came first, so it's Clannan & Clannad: After Story all rolled into one short movie! If you have not seen the series, I suggest you watch the series FIRST! Then watch this movie!

Nothing like the T.V. show
I was looking forward to the Clannad The Movie. I have already watched the Clannad and Clannad the After Story. Clannad will be one of my favorite animes of all time. As for the movie. Don't get to excited. The original voice actor of Tomoya did not return. For good reason. The movie slightly sucked. They made my girls Kyo and Tomoyo bullies. They made Nagisa wear a stupid scarf all the time. I wanted to stop watching it half way through. Something I never did with the T.V. series. I couldn't wait for the next episodes. The movie was very disappointing.
