Deft Interior Exterior Water-Based Polyurethane Finish Gloss, Quart

I have lots of varnish: oil based, water based, other major brands, old varnish, new varnish. I even have bought two different Varathane varnishes at the hardware store after trying this. What was I thinking? After decades of difficulty with varnish, I had finally found a perfect one. By which I mean that it works perfectly: it goes on smoothly, dries quickly, looks awesome, so far has been tough. I'm not even factoring in the wonderful convenience of soap and water cleanup.So I foolishly assumed all the other top brands of waterborne urethane would be equally awesome. They're not. Buy this one. ( Caveat: I have only used it on wood, and not atop paint or old finishes. Might be good, but I haven't tested it. )

Deft Polyurethane may cost more than most polyurethanes, but there is a reason for that:IT IS THE BEST!It applies like a dream and the finish is like glass. I've never used anything like it.The best part is,that is truly is crystal clear. I have purchased "clear" polyurethane from other makers in the past, and they all have a yellow tinge that becomes more prominent with every coat applied.Which is okay, if you like yellow.But if you want to preserve the true color of your project, I highly recommend Deft.I won't use anything else.(And a nice bonus -- it cleans up with water.)

This product brings wood finishing to a whole new level. It has very low odor and cleans up with soap and water. Best of all it is fast drying and can be recoated in a couple of hours. This allows you to build multiple thin coats with light sanding between them to achieve a tough mirror like finish that is ideal for table tops where protection of the wood is paramount. The dried coating does not impart color to the wood.

I learned about this Deft finish almost 30 years ago from a gunsmith. He told me he was looking for a finish for gun stocks that was durable, tough and long lasting. A friend of his recommend this Deft finish. He took an old gun stock and cleaned it up. He then coated it with 2 coats of Deft exterior polyurethane. After drying he hung the gun stock up outside for exactly 365 days. When he took it back inside and examined it he was unable to tell that the finish had changed at all. I have used it ever since on a variety of wood products with excellent results.

I like how great this sealer works

I just started using this and it looks like it will work perfectly for my needs and application, (in my case, I am using it to seal in pieces of fabric onto a wooden surface). That application therefore, does not give a good reference for how the product performs in normal use.I will say however, that I am kicking myself for a couple of reasons, both my fault.1. I did not look closely at the info, the price is for 1 quart. Not as I surmised was a gallon. You can get gallons of this type of product from retailers for what this quart costs.2. I mostly bought it because it says Interior / Exterior. I needed and wanted a strong finish to stand up to exterior conditions. In the course of shopping for an exterior polyurethane finish, I only found it available in oil based products. Not in water based such as this. Am I casting doubt without evidence. I have to say yes, because I don't really know yet. It will take the next few months to see if the product stands up to exterior conditions. But being water soluble, I doubt it. I will be very please if proven wrong. For the time being, the jury is out, but I am kicking myself because I bought on a hope rather than logic or proof. Will see what happens. It is working very well at the test and application phases of the task I bought it for.

Arrived leaking !

I bought this in hopes that it would protect my hand painted artwork on bar stools without yellowing or rubbing off causing damage to my art. I was not disappointed! I've used several other kinds of polyurethane and shellac, but none have given me the quality that I have with the Deft. Just before a party I quickly coated the dull, worn (stained) bar and stools around our hot tub. It came out beautiful and held up very well just one day later with water getting splashed on it. The standing beads of water did not make the coating turn white nor did it do any damage of any kind. I also used the polyurethane to coat a small acrylic painted clay disc used as a purse charm. The polyurethane went on smooth and made the painting more brilliant as well as giving it superior protection from the beating something like a purse charm takes day to day. I am so glad I found this product, it is protecting my work and my future by helping me provide my customers with quality.
