César Franck: Organ Works

Exactly what I was looking for!

The music inside is fantastic! The only con was that whoever manufactured the copy I received didn't do a great job. The binding isn't lined up on the side of the book. It's off by a couple of millimeters which bothers me a bit.

The Dover Editions of music are generally bad editions. This publisher takes old plates from 1st and 2nd editions and re-prints them at a cheap charge. Generally, the reprints are difficult editions (like 1st ed. Breitkof & Haertel) with small print, unclear print, mistakes, etc.But this edition is a fine edition, and would recommend it to anyone who needs a cheap edition of Franck's organ music. It is clear, easy to read, and it is an authoritative re-print. I bought this edition for ~$15; the Franck chorales are ~$50 by themselves for a current urtext reprint. So, with that in mind, I am using this edition until (and that may be never) I can afford the urtext.

Just the kind of binding that will probably eventually crack, hasn't yet though.

This was a book to take place of the one I had on loan from my music instructor. It was an identical item.

I did like the binding, the quality of print, everything!

Dover publication of original Durand edition. Original registrations, a must have for organists.

Although from time to time one reads of an "Andantino in g-minor" being out there, the major organ works of César Franck comprise 12 pieces: 6 from 1862 ("Six Pièces pour Grand-Orgue"), 3 from 1878 ("Trois Pièces") and 3 from 1890, his year of death ("Trois Chorals", which are his actual swan-song). Although sometimes he's not the best at sticking to forms (sometimes his improvising got too obviously into his written-down music), overall one can't argue against what's very inspired music of a profound and noble faith one wishes were more in evidence these days.[These 12 major works are so designated to distinguish them from a number of lesser pieces, many of them collected under the heading "L'Organiste" which are intended mostly for liturgical use and quickly get cloying if played in concert in too great a number. It's these 12 pieces that are regularly found on concert programmes as well as in church usage.]Interestingly enough, it's often been difficult to get one's hands upon a single-volume issue of these pieces (Kalmus used to issue them in 4 smaller volumes) - until Dover came out with this edition. I cannot recommend it too highly: excellent republication of Durand's first printing thereof - and when I note that a number of errors present in the initial publication (still visible in the Kalmus reprints) are discreetly corrected here, it helps make this edition even more reliable and praiseworthy!Very strongly recommended for organists, music-lovers generally and notably as a wonderful corrective to today's age of unbelief - hearing (and playing) these works truly is a tonic for the soul! [Personally, I wish they had been printed in portrait instead of the landscape format used here; however, I do know that a number of organists like this particular format and so this form has no bearing upon the mark hereby given.] GET IT!!!

This is superb value as it contains all of Franck's major organ music for a modest price. It is a reprint of the earlier Durand edition thus avoiding the many misprints of their 1950s version. As with all Dover editions the paper is opaque and best of all it lies flat on the music desk - why can't all publishers' books do this? Highly recommended

Salve è arrivato il libro puntualissimo . L'unica cosa che mi e dispiaciuta è quel piccolo scotch di riparazione ... tenendo hai libri è un difetto che non mi piace molto avrei preferito mi fosse comunicato .grazie ...del resto è tutto ok.

Maravilloso, trae las obras más importantes para órgano con pedal. La escritura es cómoda y grande. Esta muy bien. Lo recomiendo

Me ha llegado rayado y sumamente maltratado. No tengo absolutamente nada que puntuar, ha sido un envio deplorable.

Ottimo è il formato così come la parte stampata. Peccato che non ci siano tutti i lavori organistici di Franck.
