Nice UL boot
Great for when trail runners aren't quite enough, but you care about the weight. I have a trip with off-trail backpacking over rocky passes, so I wanted protection and support, but not poundage. I have the size 8 and they weigh 745 grams per pair.I got these to replace some Sugarpine I boots I used on a long backpack a couple of years ago. Those had a suede upper like the Montaro. These are a bit lighter.I rated these as somewhat small. I wear a 7.5-8 or 38-39. The size 8 will be fine if I wear the thin wool socks I plan on. For a heavier sock, or a sock with a liner, they'd be too small, especially in the toe box, so if you have wider toes or plan on bigger socks, go a size up.

Comfortable shoe but make sure yours isn't defective. NOT WATERPROOF
ORIGINAL POST: This boot sizing is pretty accurate. I typically where size 6-6.5 size shoes so I decided to buy the 6.5 so my feet had a little extra space so when I hike they can comfortable swell up. I have a narrow heel but a wide toes due to bunions and this fits comfortably. The reason I knocked off a star is because I ordered 2 different colors, Insignia Blue and Walnut, both in size 6.5, to be able to compare the look of them with what I wear when I hike. Knowing how comfortably the blue pair was prior to trying on the Walnut I could tell immediately there was an issue with the Walnut ones. At first glance I noticed a slight discrepancy in the way the fabric was sewn near the top by my toes on the left boot.... no biggie.... but as soon as I put the boot on I could tell it fit much tighter than the Insignia Blue pair did on my left foot. After closer inspection I discovered that the waterproof lining on the inside of the boot wasn't properly sewn into the top portion of the boot near my toes. If you have this boot you should be able to feel the thread that's holding the waterproof lining in place with your fingers.I'll update this once I receive my replacement pair. Hopefully what I received was just a small fluke and not a much larger issue on the manufacturer side of things. I also plan on contacting Ahnu to let them know about the issues I had with their boot so they can pay closer attention to what is produced.UPDATE: 4/7/2018 (changed to 4 stars)New Walnut pair has no deficiencies and fits exactly like my blue pair. I am however returning them and keeping the blue pair. I love "Amazon Free Returns"!UPDATE: 9/30/2018 (changed to 3 stars)I had VERY HIGH expectations for these boots. After taking them on a 2 week trip to Iceland I was very disappointed in the "Waterproof" claim Ahnu makes on these shoes. I hiked in several creeks, some just 2-3 inches of water and these boots are NOT WATERPROOF. Thankfully I had nice wool socks on so even though my feet were wet they stayed warm throughout the remainder of the hike. Fortunately they dried pretty quick after taking them off loosening up all the laces and putting them under the foot heater in my car.If you have these I recommend spraying them with an additional layer of waterproofing. That might just make yours "waterproof." The good news is that these boots were VERY comfortable. I wore them every day for 14 straight days.

Great for Plantar Fascitis sufferers
Plantar Fascitis - I reviewed hiking boots especially for people with plantar fasciitis. I found these to be recommended online. I ordered the boots in a 6 1/2 but they were too small and I ordered a 7. I used these boots to hike for a week in Yellowstone. We did a 7-mile hike, and while my foot hurt a bit, but surprisingly, it really didn't bother me so much that I couldn't hike the next. The boots were comfortable and water resistant. I would definitely recommend them if you have problems with plantar fasciitis or your arches.

Quality lacking
A friend of mine told me that Ahnu quality has gone down hill since the company was acquired by Teva. I was really hoping she was wrong. Unfortunately, there is a quality issue with the Sugarpine boots I ordered. The lining inside the left boot is all puckered (at the heel and also on the side of the boot). I know if I go on a 20 mile hike, which I often do, I will regret the purchase. I can't afford to have any unusual protrusions on the inside of the boot. I am so disappointed, since I absolutely loved my previous pair of Ahnus.I guess I will be trying another brand. And, I will buy them at REI so that I can at least take them on a hike to try them out.

Wore these to hike the Grand Canyon
These held up really well going up and down the Grand Canyon slopes. They also helped me keep traction in the lose pebble-ish dirt going down hill. A huge plus when your death awaits you with a slip and slide. The only thing is that these are not great for really hot weather. The waterproofing lining doesn't let your feet breathe. I love Tevas and I'm planning to get a more "hot weather" appropriate hiking shoe from them. These would be great for hiking in chilly weather and cool areas where there's lots of shade.

Typically a size 10, bought an 11
These boots are great so far! They are comfortable and I can definitely see them being great for long hikes. I wore them for half a day today and they were comfortable but I’ll need to add support for my high arches to wear them long term. Haven’t been able to see if they are waterproof or not yet. But so far these are great for the price. I normally wear a size 10 in all shoes except for boots and tennis shoes normally i size up to a 11 for boots and tennis shoe width (i have wide feet) i went with an 11 in these boots and the fit perfectly with thicker hiking socks.

Ready to hike!!!!
I’m a beginner hiker but quickly found that my old sneaks just weren’t going to cut it with this new hobby of mine. Typically I do 3-5 mile hikes and can be on some fairly rough terrain in these AZ mountains so needed more traction and ankle support. Since it’s still pretty new, I didn’t want to invest in top of the line shoes yet, and then I found these. Reasonaly priced, were nice and colorful, not your typical bulky hiking boots. I’m always a little skeptical about ordering shoes online. Typically I’m an 8.5M but, depending on the shoe, I could be an 8-9. I really didn’t find anything else I liked better and, now that they have arrived, they do not disappoint!!! I have some cushioned, someone thick socks to wear with them and, when I first out them on, thought they may be a little tight. But I’ve been walking around with them on, to break them in a bit, and they fit (and feel) perfect!!!Of course, I haven’t actually hiked in then yet, so I’ll check back after I’ve had some time to really break them in but I’m excited!!!!
