Avengers ASSEMBLE!!!
This game is fantastic, it plays out like any of both the previous ultimate alliance games did. They brought back the shield portal were you swap out characters and save.... But also with these new infinity rift challenges (more or less replaces the simulator disks) and a rather massive skill tree that will have you playing long after the campaign is done. You can switch your characters like in ultimate alliance 2 with the D pad but can only switch out characters on the shield portal like in ultimate alliance 1 and this is the biggest roster of heros in the series so far, dispite certain villians and like the fantastic 4 not being there this time will most likey be added in post DLC. They did add team attacks you can do but I find that the timing for those attacks are very short/split second even. Everything else is the same, special attacks are still the same mechanically speeking and ultimate attacks still work the same and kind of new for the fact you can just use it one at a time or have everyone use it at the same time to deal massive damage. There is this new stagger system also makes it that you can't span attacks but also use block and doging more efficiently espeshally important on the harder difficulties. The "in-game collectibles" has been more or less replaced by smashing some metal cube that's hidden somewere for some XP Cube to level up characters quickly, because levels don't seem to scale for everyone this time it's only for the members in your team so unless you pick certain characters they are going to stay a pretty low level the entire time. A nitpick I would point out though is the lack of environmental destruction... In ultimate alliance 2 you could smash just about anything if it's there. Here though it's rather limited to just... Boxes and the occasional explosive throwable with the exception of some boss fights requiring some special gun to aim like the sandman fight to solidify him. Story is more faithful to the original comics of the infinity war storyline were yes all these characters did participate in trying to stop Thanos like wolverine, the spidervese squad + venom, luke cage, iron fist, daredevil.... Etc as well as villians you may or may not have known that thanos did had on his side besides the "children of thanos" so I defently appreciate the devs for going the classic way. Graphics look great, certain character designs have defently been updated to their MCU counterparts (I'll miss you white nick furry) while others retain their classic counterparts like luke cage, thor, scarlet witch as well certain villians having their classic designs too so big boned thanos is back. Overall this is a simple and yet very good time, I defently enjoy and recommend this game. Also note there is planed to be more characters, costumes and story content added later along the line with both free and paid DLC.

A review with a little more in-depth info (edit after writing: a lot more)
Cons: -Camera (in case you did'nt already know)- Yeah, camera's junk. I played in the close-up camera (hero) and a few times it irritated me though a lot less than others have said (I'm not someone who cares much about camera framerate etc so take that everyone else gaming these days). -Weird difficulty spike for endgame (not a pun)- You have around 40 characters at your disposal and some are unlocked with higher levels than others. You can choose to level by playing through the story or by completing challenge rooms. They also provide one-time use xp items to level characters you dont want to have to grind levels with. Problem was (for me), I beat the game with about 10 characters I had been leveling over the course of the (each around lv 35). When I unlocked the Superior difficulty, it was so hard that there was really no way to bring in the characters I had barely touched throughout my first play through. I also really didnt have enough xp items to level them to 30. Bummer. So now my OG crew runs the challenges and I guess I'll restart the game on a lower difficulty with my low level characters. Loading times- initial loading times between story and challenge rooms are bad. The worse culprit is loading in menus. It's just long enough for you to utter "Jesus" under your breath. If you've read other reviews, you know the pros. This is just my 2 cents about the good minus all the stuff you've heard (probably ad nausium). Pros: Iso-8 system- I thought I would'nt like this system as it almost sounded tacked on, but incorrect. Iso8 modifys rpg attributes like loot does in other games EXCEPT it works on everyone. In other words its better because I'm not waiting for specific stuff to drop (especially since there's so many characters, can you imagine lol). They range from basic light attack modification, buffs, high vitality, etc to cool stuff like adding ice to the last hit in a combo chain, adding a shock property to your heavy attacks, or raising your damage to enemies with a stagger bar. That's more of the ish I'm interested in. Combat: I'm surprised how many people think this is basic stuff. True, you can play this game as a button masher but good luck once the difficulty ramps up. Combat is more nuanced than you might expect-more akin to an active rpg battle system. I played it this way, for example,- I stacked iso on wolverine that did double damage to staggered enemies. Iron Fists' iso set his ability charge attacks through the roof. Then Ghost Rider had iso that made his attacks chew through stagger meter. So I combo chain until the boss is staggered, switch to wolverine to start in on light/heavy attacks, then switch to Iron fist to charge his mega uppercut. Then I got wolverine to do his uppercut at the same time. Massive damage. Massive fun. What to do if you activate only one super on a character? why not switch to another, run beside the boss who is getting wrecked as hulk and charge his slow as heck ground slam. Get out of here with the combat is simple. Story/dialogue: I cant say I'm into comics books, but I appreciated the story and writing. Everyone has distinctive personalities, gets a spot in the (uh) spotlight, and is voiced great. Game gets to the point: It's killin killin killin. That's what it's supposed to be. The fact that it has great story, dialogue, and music is icing. You are literally bombarded for the first 3/4 of the game by boss after boss, playable character after character, cameos out the wazoo. It's just plain fun. That's it. It's deeper than what everyone is saying. Hope this can turn a few on the fence. its a 4.5 star for me but since there's still people in 2019 giving 1 star reviews for a product based on how bad their shipping/purchasing experience was, ima give it 5.

Gives fans exactly what they wanted!
As I read the reviews for this game I was initially disappointed that some of the scores were lower than I was expecting, but if you actually read the reviews you start to notice they took points away for giving fans exactly what they wanted. This is a frantic hack and slash with a light RPG influence to give it a little more depth. The game rewards you for learning how to play it, but you can also grind away, or just pick the same heroes throughout to lower the difficulty. You can also change the difficulty at any time if you're frustrated. With online and offline co op, the grind doesn't even feel like a grind. I'm beating it one player first, but I explored the options and you can go back to any chapter to grind characters and play with other people. The different ways to approach it should add some major replay value. One thing I think I should clear up is a lot of reviews say the characters don't have a lot of variety in controls... I don't know what game they're playing. There are flying guys, characters who are long range, brawlers, and each character brings enough of their superpower to feel like the character. The one negative I can think of is the story could have been better. It plays more like a greatest hits than an attempt to try something new. It doesn't hold the game back, but it could have been better. Anyway, I don't write long reviews generally so this is where I'm leaving it. If you are on the fence at all, I would say go for it. I'm completely addicted and just stopped playing to spread the news. I think I'm going to go back to it now.

Nothing But Love
Love the game! Its definitely my favorite Switch title in my library. Cancer only recently struck me down and I essentially can't get up, so having a favorite like this is refreshing (since I can't get up to physically change out to another game). I'm near finishing the story, but I don't push it and often go back to replay earlier chapters to get higher in level before continuing. And I'm still finding hidden caches (though all the ones you've already found will still be there for more random benefits to pick up). Gaining levels and skills for each superhero that you unlock is entertaining, and the developers have promised new DLC for the future, adding new unlockable characters. As of me writing this, I bought the Season Pass with it, which is the only one out there yet, and it comes with Deadpool - whom I think is unlockable in the stock game. It's nothing too complex - just a good, ol' fashioned beat-em-up. Light on the puzzles, but heavy on button-mashing combat. Don't sit down expecting a great story either. I have greatly enjoyed this game.

A must have for Marvel fans.
We bought this game hoping it would be like the old Marvel vs. Capcom game. Initially we were disappointed; it’s a very different type of fighting game. However, after several YouTube videos to get up to speed, we’re throughly enjoying this game’s story mode. My 5 year old loves fighting villains and unlocking new heroes. I’m glad we got it. Things I wish I had known: several characters have Solo missions; therefore, try to level these players first (Gamora, Spider-Man, Capt. America, Luke Cage. The following heroes also have Solo missions but they come later on in the game-Wolverine, Hulk, and Dr. Strange). All hero teams give you bonus points, but some teams yield more points than others; there's plenty of Youtube videos for you to look at. Pros: story mode is very entertaining, lots of heroes to play with (after unlocking them), enjoyable as a single or multiple player. Deadpool is the funniest hero to play with. Cons: heroes have to be unlocked and leveling all of them is very challenging and research needed to learn all the tricks is time consuming. Update: I've been playing almost daily for 3 months (due to the current Covid 19 situation) and was starting to get a bit tired of the game, but I recently purchased the expansion pack ($19.99) and it's totally recharged my excitement for it. I love everything, except the ISO-8 gems. They take up a lot of time to build. I like them, but I wish it wasn't so time consuming.

A Solid Comic Book Action Game with Last Gen Looks
The Ultimate Alliance series has been a nostalgic favorite of gamers for years. First releasing in 2006 on multiple consoles, it would go on to get a sequel as well as numerous ports to other consoles. Being able to take a team of super heroes and complete missions with your own setup was wildly appealing to comic book fans. With the Marvel fandom hitting a critical mass these days, it seemed like the perfect time for another Ultimate Alliance to come out, and apparently Nintendo agreed. Releasing exclusively on the Nintendo Switch is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Ultimate Alliance 3 isn't so much a sequel as it is a reboot. You don't have to play any of the original games (or see the Avenger movies) to understand the story. You can be an Ultimate Alliance newbie or a comic book fanatic, both sides of the coin will see enough here to keep them interested and invested. The story revolves around the Infinity Stones as you assemble a team of super heroes to track them down and try to collect all of them before Thanos and his Black Order can get his hands on it. Along the way, you'll fight typical Marvel baddies like Kingpin and the Green Goblin while also picking up additional characters to bolster your ranks. The story is about what you would expect from a game like this. It serves to move the narrative forward and is more of a "let's see how many characters we can get under one roof" style story vs. an extremely well written narrative. But to be honest, that's alright. The story moves the plot along to give you more of what you're really looking for - the combat. The combat in Ultimate Alliance 3 is just a ton of button mashing goodness. You'll select a team of 4 heroes that you have unlocked and make your way across levels consisting of both 3D and 2D set pieces. The controls are simple enough to understand (Y and X are light and heavy attacks respectively, B is jump, A is use/multipurpose) and executing one of each character's four special attacks is handled by pressing the right bumper and a corresponding face button. To add in some flavor, you can also do super moves that combine with others supers by holding down the ZR button and pressing a face button while in the vicinity of another character. The moves are easy enough for young gamers to understand and be functional with while also giving some additional intricacies around using skills at the right moment. The combat is fast, fun, and really well done. As you progress in the game, you'll level up your characters and they will earn additional skills. You can then upgrade these individual skills further on their own, or ignore them if they aren't your favorite. You'll also be able to upgrade team wide stats via the lab (in game menu) which affects all characters and not just one specific. Determining which skills to upgrade and when will make all the difference when it comes to combat because upgrades are a finite resource, especially the ones for individual characters. I found myself constantly looking for the gems needed to upgrade my characters abilities, and more than once I regretted wasting one when I found another skill more useful. Patience is often key when it comes to upgrades because you never know when you're going to meet that one character you've been dying to play as. The game gives two difficulties, friendly and mighty. Mighty is your standard difficulty and it's no slouch. You have to be leveled up enough to handle the area and if you aren't, it can be punishing. I went into a Kingpin fight with 4 under leveled characters and I did not fare well. Levels matter and proper skill use will be key. If that all sounds a little too much for what you want or if you have younger ones playing the game with you in co-op (of which there is couch and online), then Friendly might be more up your alley. You don't have to spend as much time leveling up your characters and skill use and battles are much more forgiving. You can easily switch between Friendly and Mighty from the main menu and also select individual chapters if you have a little one at home (like I do) who wants to experience the game but can't really get their head around the skills and puzzles. There is one area of the game that isn't what you would expect from a current gen console game. That is the graphics. The game itself isn't ugly per se, but it's certainly not something you'd say is good looking either. It feels like a PS3 game in graphic fidelity with some horrible anti-aliasing thrown in for good measure. The game is supposed to run at 30fps, but it often chugs in high intensity scenes. This isn't a show stopper or anything, but it is a little disappointing. With games like Zelda, Mario Odyssey, and a number of others, you can see that the Switch can more than handle a solid framerate with nice graphics. I'm not sure what happened with Ultimate Alliance, but it could have used a little more time getting fine tuned. Overall, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is a solid game that will make a lot of couch co-op players incredibly happy. The ability to play online with friends as well as locally makes it all the better. I spent most of my time playing the game solo on the Mighty difficulty, but the ease of loading up a chapter on Friendly with my son was great to see. If you like frenetic action games that allow you to dictate difficulty by the amount of effort you put into leveling your characters, then you'll have a great time with Ultimate Alliance 3.an of the original Ultimate Alliance games on the

After a few hours with MAU3, here's my thoughts so far. May be some minor spoilers.
Story - Thanos and his merry band of The Black Order want the 6 Infinity Stones for the Power Glove, Probably so they can finally beat Bald Bull in Punch-Out. As someone who hasn't seen Infinity War(s), I have no idea how closely it follows the movie, and so far it really isn't following the comic arc. Still, if you loved the movies, you may get a kick out of playing through the story. Graphics - More cartoony than MUA 1 or 2, kind of reminds me of that kids Marvel game back in 7th gen. Marvel's Super Hero Squad. It took some getting used to, but we have to remember it was made exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, not exactly a graphical powerhouse. It works overall though, I just got to the part where you go to the X Mansion and the Sentinels are there, I'd be lying if I said seeing the Sentinels in all their purple glory didn't hit me right in the nostaligia feels. Combat - It's an ARPG just like its predecessor. Controls are pretty fluid, R and a face button for powers, ZR and a face button for team up powers, L+R for Extreme attacks. As in most ARPGs, I feel that ranged has an advantage over melee, and with what seems that all the enemies use ranged, your melee character can take some damage before you get to lay the smackdown. Multiplayer - I still haven't gotten around to getting Nintendo Online, so the only thing I'll comment is drop-in and drop-out co-op (both local and online) is, and always will be, freakin' sweet. Extras - Tons of characters. Early on, I beat Venom and Spidey showed up and talked the group into letting him join (Which Venom was like, "We shall protect the innocent and when done, we will devour you" to Spiderman). The X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, Defenders, there is tons and still have another 10 or so to unlock. Nightcrawler and Psylocke make appearances which always hits my nostalgia. Haven't seen Jean yet, maybe I'll see her later or they didn't add her cause the movie was so bad. Dunno. They have Infinity Trials that unlock ISO to equip, upgrade parts, outfits, etc. Overall, it's been hella fun. I don't see me playing anything else until I at least finish the story and pwn some trials. Own, Rent, Ignore or Hate - Ignoring the fact that I own it personally, if you have a Switch and like Marvel and ARPGs, it's worth the price and will give you hours of enjoyment.

Mahhhhhvel
I wish this wasn’t a switch exclusive, but with enough support, maybe we can get a Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4 that’s multiplatform with crossplay. With the success of Marvel Rivals…maybe one day. But for a switch game this looks phenomenal…especially Psylocke *slurps*
