Essential Oil Safety: A Guide for Health Care Professionals Hardcover – 1 May 1995

This is an excellent reference and self learning manual (which is what it professes to be). It contains all the essential, technical details necessary to gen up on aromatherapy and I found it to be extremely helpful. Naturally, some of the parts are quite difficult (especially the chemical bits) but that is inherent to the subject matter.It does not simplify and it does not contain commercial pretty pictures to attract the superficial reader, but that is fair enough, given that there are plenty of books like that on the market. One must be a serious student to get enough out of this book - it is for serious study, but that met my expectations (with an illustrious name like Tisserand on the front cover, could one reasonably expect anything else!) so I am happy with that.

A wonderfully laid out and complete guide to all safety aspects of essential oil usage. This book is invaluable to all who wish to safely use essential oils for use in professional roles, as so little is taught about the safety aspects in most classrooms. Easy to use and cross reference, with some great writing, diagrams and tables.

Any aromatherapist must of course make certain that safe practice is the foundation for her/his work. Though this book is now quite old, it still fills a gap in the market, and is, to my knowledge the only reasonably priced book which focuses only on safety - contraindications and cautions for conditions and specific client groups, specific oils and specific chemical constituents within specific oils.It is certainly one of the most well thumbed books on my groaning aromatherapy shelf, the first one I turn to when working with clients presenting with health issues which I suspect have led to compromise in the actions of liver, kidneys, the skin itself, or are on prescription medication which may affect the safe choice of specific oils. Nor would i add a new oil to my extensive kit before starting my research into it via the EOS bookThe elderly date of last revision of the book, and the absence of a body of information about recent positive research studies prohibit the final 5th star; however I can't afford Bob Harris's EORC database (several hundred pounds)Until Robert brings out a revised version (I believe this has been planned for MANY years) my battered EOS will continue to suffer the wear and tear of constant handling

I needed this book for my work. I am very pleased with it and have enjoyed reading it so far.The book arrived before the expected date, in very good condition considering it was second hand.

It's good of its kind, but like many academic books is hard to find exactly what you're looking for. Had I realised it was written in the academic style, I might not have bothered buying it.

Exactly as I had expected and it was delivered one day ahead of prediction!

Although I haven't finished reading this yet I already know that it will be a valuable tool and ongoing resource that I will refer to with any questions I have about the safety of essential oils, I have to read it in increments because of the chemistry language but essential oils are so full of healing chemicals and so fascinating to me that I look forward to finishing this wonderful reference book. Thanks to Robert Tisserand for sharing this knowledge so we can be more informed users of these wonderful oils.

The book contains a lot of scientifically based information about essential oils. Quantitative composition and description of the main components with toxicological data are presentedMany components of essential oils are presented with chemical formula and possible metabolism. Data are also well referenced. We just miss the INCI names for essential oils andCAS-Numbers for oils or components for a clear allocation and identification. Nevertheless this book is a very good scientific approach to the character ofessential oils.
