Search For Humanity
The newest addition to the Silver Surfer Epic Collection line covers adventures from 1997 and 1998, which is fairly late in the period that the Epics tend to cover (so far, 1961-2002), which makes it fairly interesting in itself. Happily, it's also a particularly interesting period in the life of the Sentinel of the Spaceways, so this volume is doubly welcome.Coming towards the end of the Surfer's longest-running ongoing series (I believe there were only another eight issues after the ones collected here), new creative team J.M. DeMatteis and Ron Garney construct a cohesive and fascinating take on the Surfer. Recently deprived of his emotions, the Surfer returns to Earth in order to find a way to reconnect with them. A main character without any recognisable humanity left should by rights be a drag to read, but they make you feel for Radd's predicament every step of the way, so that you root for him to regain what he lost.A big part of this emotional process is reconnecting with Alicia Masters, the Surfer's first friend on Earth and long-time love of the Thing. Now, these comics take place during the Heroes Reborn period, when many of Earth's heroes, the Fantastic Four among them, were considered dead. This leaves the comic free to utilize Alicia as the potential love interest, foil and conscience for the Surfer, and it works brilliantly.Even though the Surfer is largely Earth-bound during this run, the cosmic nature of the series is still maintained throughout, with through time and into the mind every bit as impressive and awe-inspiring as any voyage through the cosmos. Along the way, there's a dramatic revelation about Radd's home planet, some wonderful character development for Alicia's father the Puppet Master, and yet another showdown with the villainous Mephisto.Extras include a Wizard poster by Garney, three pages of articles from Marvel Vision, the cover to the Inner Demons trade, a house ad and an unused Paul Pelletier cover. It's definitely one of the less obvious gems of the Epic Collections, but this edition is certainly worth your time.

Silver Surfer Epic Reihe
Auch wenn die Verpackungen für Comics noch zu wünschen übrig lassen ist ist der Silver Surfer Band selbst wirklich klasse.
