Not impressed-difficult to find the sweet spot for spinning-Update 08-2024
I purchased this unit to stir LC in pint bottles. I found it only worked on two settings. It does the job, but finding the sweet spot to get the stir bar to spin is a pain. Would I buy this one again? No.Update 08-2024With the right weighted magnets this works very well so upgraded *3 to *5 ... And about whether I would buy or recommend. Yes, get the right accessories and things do work much better.

Good for the cost.
It works. It's cool to watch. I got it for giggles I think. Saw something on video platform on bar mixing syrups and infusions... thought I'd give it a whirl without breaking the bank.

Great for stirring Shellac!
I like to make small batches of shellac in varying percentages and this little tool makes that easy as pie. I use a cheap coffee grinder to create shellac powder out of the flakes, pour that powder into whatever volume of denatured alcohol that I need (into a mason jar), drop in a magnetic pellet and turn the centrifuge on. I can fully dissolve my shellac powder into the liquid within about 30 minutes. It is an awesome time saver!

Great price - way less than I paid for the last one 20 years ago.
The media could not be loaded. Not to go Heisenburg but lab stirrers are great in the kitchen. I've used a pair (one heat and stir and one stir only) for many years, my stir only gave out so I replaced it with this one and so far so good. You can control the stir speed from very slow to really fast, best of all the only moving part is the magnetic stir bead in the bottom, ingredients won't get chopped up as in a blinder. (I've never used one on a super thick soup but for reconstituting beef stock paste into broth they are great.Anytime I really need to make sure somethign fully disolves I can leave it on a stirrer and know it will be ready to go while I can complete other tasks cooking. The same company makes one that has heat as well and the price on that is crazy low compared to 15-20 years ago when I got mine. If I'm doing a big meal it let's me multi-task better. If you haven't used one it's worth a try, I can't believe how cheap they are now.**Safety note - the glassware and stir rods I use for cooking have never been used with chemicals or anything other than food grade materials. Don't reuse lab glassware for safety. That said the gradients on lab glassware are easy to read and you can get a variety of sizes which is great when you are working on receipies that need perfect measure.*

Motor went out after less than 3 hours of total use
I've used this stir plate in 3 minute sessions maybe once or twice a week since I ordered it back in June, and today I went to use it and found that it wouldn't spin. I confirmed that the motor was getting power but just wouldn't start up, so it's definitely a bad motor. I definitely expected more use than the few hours I got out of it.

Great Customer Service
Edit: Company contacted me regarding my 1 Star review. They explained the issue and how it was being addressed in manufacturing. New unit sent immediately and it works great. New unit has a much more solid power connection. It's good to see a manufacturer willing to make changes to production when issues are noted, and I would confidently buy from this company again.I picked this up for making cold brew coffee at home. While it worked great at first, the power cord pulled lose from the back and the unit became non-functional. I'm not sure if there was a short or if there are more wires disconnected, but it will not work. It appears as if a set screw was missing in construction and once the screw allowed the power wires to pull loose it was apparent that the soldered points were not insulated.I would love to give this a better review since it worked well in the beginning, but I cannot recommend this due to the manufacturing errors.
