I've seen some negative reviews. Not sure why. This thing, for the money, for its size, is great. I've been splitting big and small logs on this and it work amazingly. Wish it was a little bigger but still is amazing ...... worth every penny!!!! Also..pic in reviews w damaged edge is probably due to user error and hit it. Image w black edge/peeling or scratched looking is the coming that it gets shipped with that comes off and exposes the sharpened edge. Some people just don't have the noodles in their bowl for a full soup....just watery broth folks.

This splitter arrived quickly and was well packaged. It is very study. I found it works much better after I mounted it to a piece of plywood and secured the base (there are 4 holes for screws). I was cutting 5 year old cedar logs - tapped them onto the top of the cutters (so they would stay in place) and then wacked the logs with a 10 lb sledge). Split the wood well into smaller pieces for the firepit. Very good product.

So this is a good, basic, little chopper. If you need it to split small pieces into kindling, it's a five star item. I bought it because I needed to split a few larger pieces, with a dimension that wouldn't fit into one of the kindling choppers with the circular holders at the top. That job requires a pretty heavy blow with a hammer. Heavy enough that it pulled up the chopper from the wood round that I'd put it into with 5/16" x 3 1/2" lag screws. I ended up needing to drill out the holes to take a 3/8" x 8" lag bolt, and that seems to have done the job. But if this chopper had a wider base to begin with, and slightly larger holes, I could have avoided the time and expense that I didn't expect to spend in the first place.

I am very please with the splitter. It makes short work of chopping up kindling that is much safer than a hatchet with fingers nearby. I am not using it to try and split full length logs like some of the reviewers seem to be. It has made short work of any normal size piece of split firewood I have tried. You can make any size of kindling down to a pencil if you want.

I like that this splitter is small and light enough to be portable. Do not purchase to split over 6" diameter logs-get larger size splitter. Be sure to use the recommended 4lb hammer to make splitting easier. This splitter will work on 3-4' diameter firewood even with a 2lb hammer/hatchet but takes more work to split the wood. Due to it's small size it does move around unless you screw it down to a solid base, so keep the wood centered on the splitter. Overall, it is great for splitting smaller logs for the fireplace or for a small campfire. Highly recommended!!

Excellent product, wish I had purchased it 20 years ago. In 10 minutes I filled two large boxes with fire starter kindling and larger pieces of wood. I took old wood that was to go to the landfill and turned it into a usable firepit wood. This device looks to be very durable and I expect to have it 20 years from now. Thanks to this seller.

Bought this to chop kindling wood for my fireplace. The metal blade started bending like tin foil on the second batch of kindling. I never struck it with a metal hammer It's only the soft wood that bent the blade. Very very disappointed. I got the original kindling cracker, the large one,and it's super hard cast iron .This is just cheap stuff.

Box arrived completely smashed and crudely taped together- the edge on the splitter took a beating in transit. Also appeared edge had been painted over.It appears sturdy but we have not yet used it. We can probably sharpen it and smooth out the chips using an angle grinder, but I find it disappointing to have to do this to a brand new item. Please find a way to package these better!Will update review after a few uses.
