Easy to install and works well.
Easy to install and works well. Got to replace the Schlage key lock as the key was stolen from a back-pack left in our rental car in Houston. Our nephew has one on his door and recommended it to us. Instructions were easy to follow. All the pre-drilled holes worked and it went right in.

A great consumer grade lock
This lock is great in a home setting for one simple fact: The door will *ALWAYS* be automatically locked, every single time you go in or out, without having to remember to lock it, and most importantly, without worry that you'll be locked out! The most important rule of security is to ALWAYS KEEP THE DOOR LOCKED. The most secure lock in the world does no good if you don't actually lock it, and this lock covers that most important first rule of security!Of course you can also flip the lever on the inside, and it'll stay unlocked, if you want to leave your door unlocked for any reason. (maybe you're having a party, with lots of people coming and going, for example)You can add several codes, and this is good for a family with children, because they can all have their own code, and they are never ever locked out of the house. We've found it's important to give each child their own code, so when their friends see (or they tell them) it can be changed. They quickly learn to be more careful after they have to memorize a new code. Programming only takes a minute, to add or remove each code. The push buttons give good tactile feedback, and it also beeps to let you know it registered your key press. It only takes a few seconds to unlock, the buttons are backlit, and it will light up at night if needed (by feel alone, you can press the big top button to turn the internal keypad lights on). It will blink red and "lock you out" for a minute if you try too many failed attempts, to prevent someone from just trying/guessing combinations until they get in.The only drawback I've found is that the buttons are close together, so when it's -20F, I find that it's hard to use with large, thick fat-fingered gloves, but taking a glove off for the 1-2 seconds it takes to unlock it, when you're going inside (where you'll take the glove off anyway!) isn't a show stopper. It's got a manual key override, so you can carry a normal key to over ride it in the event that the batteries go dead, or the electronics fail for any reason. I've only been using these locks for about 3+ years, and in that time, I've never had to change a battery yet, so I don't know how long the battery (a single 9V type) lasts.I've used this lock (or one in other various colors) on multiple homes, garages, out buildings, and even a garden shed. Installation takes about 10-20 minutes, depending on the door, but it's no harder than installing any other lock. If you already have Schlage locks on your door, you can probably use the same strike, and strike plate that is already in your door/door frame. In that case, it's really quick, probably 5 minutes. Just take the screws out of your old lock and remove, adjust the "hands free" plastic mount plate, route the battery wire, put the lock on, (hand free plate holds it in place, but you still might want enlist another set of hands to hold the lock for you) tighten two screws, maybe swap the handles (for right/left swing doors) program (fairly easy with great included instructions) and you're done.

Good, but can't lock it from the outside
Overall good. I've installed this (Schlage FE595) and Kwikset 911 models. Some notes to be aware of:(1) if you have hammer in latches it doesn't appear Schlage has a hammer in option (but neither did the Kwikset). Thus you'll need to chisel out the latch hole to fit a standard plate. Not hard, but be aware.(2) you can’t lock this from the outside. This lock has 2 modes: always locked (i.e. it re-locks a few seconds after you unlock it) or always un-locked (by turning the lever on the inside into the unlocked position). If in the “un-locked” mode when you leave, you can’t shut the door and hit a lock button to lock it from the outside. You have to open the door, reach into the inside lever and flip it back to the “always locked” mode, and then shut the door (or get into the habit of doing this on the way out). It works as designed, but it wasn’t intuitive to me. By contrast, with the Kwikset 911 model you can also leave in always locked or unlocked mode but still lock it from the outside by hitting the lock button (which happens to be the Kwikset button). With the Schlage, the Schlage button’s only function on the FE595 is to illuminate the keypad. In summary, works well, has been reliable, and I do like it. But my wife and I have having to learn to lock from the inside before leaving vs. locking from the outside after the door is shut.

Works so far, fairly easy install
Tested before install once I got the device just to make sure I knew how to do the combo and change the combo - pretty simple and I got pretty good at it after a few tries and set up my own codes. We are doing a vacation rental and I had previously rekeyed all the major locks (Schlage) to the house with a single key profile.I was happy that I was also able to rekey this lock to the same key profile. In testing our key it works just fine. I did of course test the key the lock came with and that worked before we changed the profile. It had parts for a faceplate and the round support for the latch and I needed the round support (old door) so that was great. Our door had a bolt lock that would have been in the way of this tall lock so I removed that and purchased a deadbolt cover plate. I had to dremel/cut an arc in the cover plate to make it look nice as the FE595 would have partially covered the deadbolt cover plate and left a gap where it would not be flush with the door.Install went fairly well, my only complaint was the wires for the 9-volt battery. I wanted them neatly in there and to also run through the guides in the housing. Took a little bit of doing and I had to push wires where they needed to go. I also didn't want replacing the 9-volt battery to cause stress on the wires so I tried arranging the wires so there would be less movement/strain when replacing the battery. After the installation was done, I tested the lock with the new codes and it works just fine. Tested the rekeyed lock as well and that works fine. I also tested the inside bolt that is supposed to keep the door locked (unless the code is used) or it can be turned to keep the door unlocked --- both positions worked fine. The number pad also lights up when the Schlage logo is pressed on the keypad which helps if is dark. Will update if I find any issues.

Easy install - good quality product
Purchase 2 units for installation in a turn-key operation. Install was fairly straight forward provided your double check the instructions. Key codes can be programmed easily for each incoming and departing guest. I wanted the brass to match existing hardware and had some reservations about tarnishing. Installed 2-months ago - no apparent tarnishing at this point, looks goods. Note, this is a keypad lever and a keyed or keypad dead bolt is still recommended for entrance "security". Product fully met my expectations.

Industry leading
One of the best door locks on the market (I've tried over a dozen of the higher end consumer ones). It's quick, quiet, and the non-mechanical auto-locking feature is super handy: once installed you can basically leave it on locked and never have to change it or worry about it, just close the door as you leave and all is secure.
