Excellent Upgrade Policy
I have used TurboTax since 1992 and have been pleased with the software throughout the years. The software allows people who are not familiar with filling out the forms to undergo an interview process, and tax payers who do not need much hand holding can fill the tax forms directly.TurboTax automatically transfers my federal tax information to the state income tax forms. It also transfers relevant tax info from financial institution websites. Both features are tremendous time savers for me.I have always used the Deluxe version to e-filed my tax returns. But for tax year 2014, there has been changes to the Deluxe version. The Deluxe version still permits users to fill out Schedules D and E to print them out, but it will no longer e-file my return if I use Schedule E for my rentals or Schedule D if I sold a mutual fund. Also, I have to undergo the step-by-step interview process if I want to e-file my return, rather than fill out the forms directly. I now have to upgrade to the Premier version if I want to e-file.These changes lowered my initial rating for the Deluxe version to just 4 stars. However, since I am a former customer, TurboTax gave me a free upgrade to Premier. I initially had a problem with the upgrade, but the company VP who authorized the upgrade quickly resolved my problem. Their excellent customer service to mollify my initial displeasure and excellent technical support, raised my rating to 5 stars. I don't know if they will continue the free upgrade policy next year for former Deluxe customers.

Unacceptable product changes ... causing me to look at alternatives. You just lost a 20+ year customer.
I have been using TurboTax for 25 years and bought the Deluxe version again on auto-pilot ... to continue my yearly IRS activity. However, I am surprised to receive an e-mail from Intuit today that the product functionality has been reduced under the guise of "consistency" with your other products. According to the words from the General Manager: "So this year, we made the product experience consistent across all TurboTax offerings" ... see full text below.Sorry, this is completely unacceptable, and the offer of $25 to "help you through this transition year" to the higher priced version does *NOT* cut it, since the cost WILL be higher next year. The correct solution is far simpler: PUT the forms and features back and DON'T do it again next year either - anything else is NOT acceptable.FORTUNATELY, I have not yet opened my copy (was going to do so next weekend), so will be returning it to Amazon for a different kind of refund (hah!) and moving on to an alternative - ANY alternative - that does not try to insult my intelligence. Luckily, competition exists and is, apparently, as good ... based on what I am reading so far.So, Intuit, your action has MADE me look for alternatives ... is that the outcome you wanted? I am making a change too.And you have lost a customer who has been using your product for 25 years. Good luck with the future.Below is the full text of the e-mail from Sasan Goodarzi, General Manager:"We messed up. We made a change this year to TurboTax desktop software and we didn't do enough to communicate this change to you as proactively and broadly as we could or should have. I am very sorry for the anger and frustration we may have caused you.Intuit has a long history of doing right by our customers, and in this instance, we did not live up to the standards of excellence you have come to expect from us. We did not handle this change in a manner that respected our loyal customers and we owe you an explanation of what we are doing to make it right. The change we made to our desktop products, both the download and CD versions, includes removing Schedules C, D, E and F from TurboTax Deluxe, which some long-time customers had relied on to report business income, investment sales and rental property income. As a result, you may now be required to upgrade the version of TurboTax you use even though your tax situation hasn't changed from last year. Here's why we made the change. Over the years, we have worked hard to make it easy for you to choose the TurboTax product that is right for you and your unique tax situation. We want that choice to be clear and confidence inspiring. However, as new online and mobile technologies emerged, our products, and the tax scope and features they included, began to differ, leading to customer confusion. These differences also impeded our ability to introduce new innovations across our entire product line.So this year, we made the product experience consistent across all TurboTax offerings. This change enables us to innovate faster and make improvements that benefit all customers at the same time, regardless of whether they use our online or desktop software. You can be sure that we've preserved what's unique to our desktop product: the ability to e-file up to five returns, switch to forms mode and install the software on multiple computers. Find the TurboTax product that's right for you.But good intent must be matched with great execution, and that is where we let you down. We have heard from many of you that you were surprised when you discovered the change. No one likes this kind of a surprise, so we are taking immediate action to make things right and help you through this transition year.We are giving $25 back if you purchased TurboTax Deluxe desktop software (CD or download) and filed your 2013 tax return and have to upgrade to TurboTax Premier or Home & Business to file your 2014 return. This will help you move to the right desktop product, while reducing the immediate and unexpected financial impact. After completing and filing your return this year, request your $25 here.I deeply regret the anger and distress we have caused those of you affected by this change. Our customers are the heartbeat of every TurboTax employee. Our hope is that we can regain your trust and demonstrate that our commitment to you has never been stronger."

Turbo Tax DEluxe 2014 Fed+State_Fed Efile
This year Turbo Tax Deluxe was easier to use than in years past. I think part of the reason might be for the very reason why Turbo Tax took a real hit this year because as most of us we just buy what we have always purchased without looking at it. Intuit changed their products this year. While this product in the past included home business schedules this year you had to upgrade if you had income from rental property or investments. In years past I had stocks and bond investments but no more so the TurboTax Deluxe worked great for me. It figured out with a few questions who I could take for dependents, in these hard times we have helped to support more people so we needed to know who we could take and who we could not. And then of course the new big elephant in the room, healthcare. With one or two questions that was also taken care of very easily. Thank you for a great product that keeps on helping with these burdensome rules and regulations that are so complicated that to do it on our own would probably be a real nightmare. I might add that Intuit sent me an email, because I created an account to tell me that they were offering to help you buy the upgrade if you purchased the Deluxe and really needed the Premier. A very nice gesture.
