An excellent book to feature during Womens history month and a good choice for school and public library collections. Wilma's life is well detailed and accompanied by many photos. Youngsters of all backgrounds will find her story encouraging, from her premature birth, through struggles early on (imagine having 20 siblings!), then dealing with polio. I found her mother's determination to transport her fifty miles every week for two years in order to get therapy an amazing accomplishment, given the times and that it took place in the segregated south. I hope this book inspires many kids to think about trying to achieve the impossible.
