Regalo Safety 24"-40.5" Extra Wide Baby Gate for Top of Stairs & Dooways

This is a lengthy review but I've tried to cover all of the highlights and things you might have questions about as well as my experience with the gate in general. This gate is a great product! It[gate] is made of steel, not some cheap plastic and lightweight wood contraption which breaks easily under the tension required to hold it in a doorway. While the listing is for stairway and hallway applications, they can be used in doorways just as well. It is important to note that this gate must be hardware mounted, it can not be pressure mounted. While it can feasibly be done with just a screwdriver, a power drill will make the job easier. Two of these were installed in doorways in my home to grant our 2 cats reprieve from being chased by a very rambunctious Bassethound puppy at every turn. We originally had wooden & plastic combo gates but they were cheap and cracked after a very short period of time. I returned one gate once and the other gate twice; the wood & plastic gates were also pressure mounted and unlike the steel gates, weren't actually true gates. We had to remove then reinstall them every time we needed to pass through the doorway which was a real pain or step over them which caused one household member with severe knee problems a lot of true pain not to mention the danger of falling if a foot hadn't cleared the top of the gate as happened to another household member. These steel gates were the perfect option because they actually have a gate which pivots open and then latches back into place as needed. For those of you who are interested in info pertaining to keeping your little one safe, I highly recommend this gate. It is designed such that you choose which direction for the gate to swing open which makes installing at the top of steps/stairs, very safe because it can & should be installed so that the gate will not swing out over the steps/stairs, only over a floor. The gate can be easily opened one-handed by an adult or older child but your toddler won't be able to manage the task, even with both hands. When properly installed following easy to understand printed text and pictures for clarity, the gate is spaced such that a little one can not get his/her head stuck in the space between the bottom of the gate and the floor and the uprights/rails are also designed with that in mind. The design makes it easy for you and your little one to see one another so you can keep an eye on the little one and he/she can track your movements easier too so that separation anxiety doesn't kick in. When you've finished installing the gate you will have 2 pieces left over, it's supposed to work out that way. Save the two pieces along with the installation instructions and the marking templates in the event you wish to move the gate and need it to swing in the opposite direction. You would also need the installation instructions in the event you wish to purchase a completely new hardware kit for the gate. Be sure to circle the model number of your gate inside the instructions so that you'll remember which hardware kit to order as there are two different kits available. I highly recommend this gate whether for baby humans or baby pets. I believe it to be a very good quality gate. One last noteworthy point; a small level and something to use as a temporary shim may come in handy. If like me, you live in an older home built by hand and on blocks and therefore may not have level floors. You'll need to level the gate so that the latch works as intended. I speak from experience. One gate is fine but the other takes a bit of finessing to get the latch to catch as it should. It works fine but eventually I intend to move the hardware on the pivot side of the doorframe so that it functions smoothly.

Been using this gate since our daughter learned to crawl and it’s still going strong! Out daughter is 3 and a half now and she has climbed on slammed and stood on it and this thing hasn’t budged. Still as steady and safe as the day we installed it. East to install and is versatile. We had it in our previous home in front of our decently wide stairwell entrance. And in our new home it’s used to keep her out of a room. Easily adjustable to for your situation. Doesn’t look clunky like it’s plastic competition. Looks just as sturdy as it is. Very nice, especially for being as budget friendly as it is.

This gate has been installed and used numerous times a day for the last couple weeks. I found the install to be extremely easy, much easier than other baby gates I've had that required drilling into the wall. There are three spacer blocks pre drilled that mount to the side support leg of the gate. You just have to put the screw through the hole, level the leg (there is a level built into the top, but I also used a magnetic level attached to the side) then drill it into a stud. On the bannister side, using the Velcro straps definitely was a little finicky. There are rubber angled bits that go around square bannisters. As other users have mentioned, these have sticky backs to hold them in place but the sticky doesn't stick. So, as you're tightening the strap, these rubber protectors slide around. It took a few minutes fiddling but I got it. The round bannister was pretty easy, but I couldn't get it super tight no matter how hard I tried. As others have mentioned, there is only one round banister adapter so you will have to contact the company if you need another. The gate has a leg in the middle which absorbs the brunt of the force when the kid leans on it, saving the bannister from taking all the weight. Opening the gate is very easy, closing, as others have said, is a bit tricky. My second pic shows the two pegs you have to align to close. Definitely a bit fiddley to do one handed. Overall this has been one of the easier gates to install, it has been very solid and sturdy even after many uses, and it made securing the top of the stairs very easy. There are a couple small issues I have with it, but overall I am very happy with it.

ITEM: Regalo 2-in-1 Extra Wide Stairway and Hallway Walk ThroughBaby Safety Gate (Metal) COMMENTS: I am using this at the bottom of my stairs to prevent pets from going up - please keep this in mind that this is the only function I have in mind in this review. PROS: - This gate function is amazing, it’s a lift in/out style just like I remember when I was a kid and SO much better than all the over-engineered safety ones that are impossible to get open. There is still is a thumb latch, but it’s possible to install it without. - All of the contact points are adjustable, so if you’re like me and have uneven walls/baseboards/etc you can still mount it perfectly. - Absolutely no sound, resistance, or other function issues. - It’s metal and you can purchase installation kits! This is fantastic in the light of throwaway culture. - It’s one of the best gates and the lowest price. It’s honestly a win all around. NEUTRALS: - I purchased a used one examined by Amazon and it was missing a piece. I’m currently working with Regalo customer service and they’re being quite helpful. Will update if there’s any issue with it. As it stands, because the piece was one of the stops and not necessary for me, I installed and am still beyond pleased. CONS: - None! GIFTABILITY: (All of my packages are sent with Prime Delivery Day and manufacturer’s packaging preference selected. This may impact how things are shipped and cause my packaging experience to differ from yours.) It came shipped in the manufacturer’s packaging (a cardboard box); which was branded in black print. I would recommend not directly gifting it unless you’re not concerned about the surprise being disrupted. WOULD I PURCHASE? (This is a holdover from my Vine reviews, I actually purchased this directly, but figured I’d include it anyway - any prices noted are as of the time of writing): Yes, and absolutely will again if I need another! With a list price of $39.99 (currently marked down to $34.98), you can stop your search here. It’s hands down the best between price and function. My rating system is: 5 = no/minimal complaints, very pleased 4 = minor complaints, overall satisfied, but could be better 3 = notable complaints, overall average to ‘meh’ 2 = significant complaints, unhappy and will not keep/use 1 = entirely complaints, misleading descriptions, straight to the trash product.

Great product! This is extremely sturdy (can handle my toddler & crazy dog). BEST BABY gate I've bought. Tried wooden gates (trash), pastic gates (weak). Other metal gates didnt work with my wierd set up. I have a thin square metal banister on one side of my stairs & a baseboard on the bottom of my wall. This gate comes with plastic adjusters for baseboards so it fit my wall side perfectly,very sturdy. For the metal banister it has this plastic set up w straps. The plastic doesn't stick which is annoying. I found that I had to use 3 corner plastic tabs for my banister & make some adjustments. Using a pocket knife I cut down the sides to some of the plastic pieces so the buckle would fit snuggly.( see pic). This was only necessary since I have very thin banisters. I also had to double wrap the velcro. I used all 4 banister wraps on 1 banister & it worked great. Opening this door one handed is EASY. Love it. Closeing is a little cumbersome. This is a must buy for anyone with wierd set ups

Pros: - I didn't find installation of it to be too difficult. I use it on the top of the stairs where both sides have molding. I found the instructions to be fairly simple to follow. I drilled pilot holes before screwing into the wall, which I think helped. But basically, the steps included installing mounting poles with three screws each, then insert gate. - The height is ideal for our top of the stairs. I was worried I would have to remove a hand rail on one wall, but it is low enough to go under the handrail, yet seemingly high enough not to worry about our 1 year old being able to climb on it. - It is sturdy when in the locked position. Cons (and reason for the 3-star "It's okay" rating: - The locking mechanism seems too much of a hassle to use frequently. It has a top and bottom prong that fit into respective holes on the mounting pole. To close/lock you have to (1) pull up on the gate while squeezing a handle at the top, (2) align both prongs on the holes while fighting the tension of the gate, and (3) lower the prongs into the holes while still squeezing the handle. This is nearly impossible with one hand, so I couldn't imagine doing it while having a kid. I'm also a relatively in shape guy and fighting the tension to lift and maneuver the gate takes a little elbow grease. My wife is already content just aligning the top hole since it is rather sturdy. Based on all this, I envision us only keeping it locked when the baby is upstairs and roaming around. Defeats some of the purpose though since I then have to consciously remember to do it. - You can't permanently fix the length of the gate. This makes the locking hard as well because in aligning the prongs you have to make sure the length remains correct (and it slides in and out pretty easily). - The knob meant to sit on the floor is too large. It's adjustable but at its highest level, it still scrapes our carpet to much so that it doesn't swing well. You can remove it but there's a screw that doesn't detach, so not having it would probably damage your floor. All in all, it works as it's supposed to and I'm impressed by the sturdiness of it. I may try a few of the fixes suggested in the reviews (which I wish I read more of before purchasing), such as using zip ties so it doesn't slide in and out as much. But it sucks you have to result to home remedies for a product you paid good money for. I also may reposition it a bit higher to help overcome the knob issue (though that's additional holes in my walls). I wanted to try one before buying another for the bottom of the stairs. But now I think I'll look for one with at least a different locking mechanism for the bottom of the stairs.

This is, by a large margin, the worst consumer product of any variety I have purchased in a while. The design is terrible, the construction is worse, and the instructions - while technically accurate - are in practice as useless as a bag of rocks. Design: Most expandable gates slide apart to adjust for length, as does this one. However, other gates allow you to LOCK that length in place using set screws so that the length doesn't change every time you open the gate. Not this one. This means that it is almost impossible to close this gate one-handed in practice because getting both the top and bottom posts of the latch lined up at the same time with only one hand. There is also a support in the middle of the gate that is supposed to sit on the floor to support the gate. But if you have to mount the gate more than ~1.5" off the floor, the stud that this foot is mounted on won't reach and it just hangs there uselessly. I wouldn't harp on this except this gate is supposedly designed to go over baseboard, which means it is highly likely that someone (like myself) will need to mount it a little higher off the floor. The stud also isn't removable, so you can't DIY your way out of the problem either. Construction: Whatever engineer designed this system shouldn't be employed anymore. Clearly they failed basic GD&T. The plastic studs that the gate is supposed to rotate on also need to be loose enough so that the gate itself can be raised slightly as part of the opening/closing process. Unfortunately the plastic studs are far too close in diameter to the ID of the mounting bracket holes, such that obviously excessive machining tolerances combined with the thickness of the paint coat mean that, as supplied, you can't open the gate properly. The studs get stuck in the mounting holes preventing the gate from being raised. This can be fixed by drilling out the holes on one of the mounting brackets, however that is an entirely unacceptable state of affairs. Instructions: Again, they are technically accurate. The trouble is that if you just follow the instructions you will have to mount and remount one of your brackets repeatedly in order to get the height right. What they don't tell you is to mount the hinge side first, put the latch side on the gate, and set your height that way. It's frustrating enough as someone who is mechanically inclined. Forget about it if you aren't. Conclusions: Don't waste your money. I'd give it zero stars if Amazon would let me. The only reason I haven't returned it is I need a gate and I've already modified it to make it work.

We have had this gate for 3 years now and it has been great! Very easy to install and use daily. Recently the top hinge part cracked and split apart. I reached out to their customer support and they were so helpful! They were able to get me a replacement part for a very reasonable price which was much better than buying an entire new gate! Hopefully we will get many more years from this gate once we fix the top hinge. This company really does care about their customers and makes a great product! Worth the purchase to keep your babies safe and to have a product with the longevity they provide is not common these days!

The Regalo gate is a nice looking gate that does its job of preventing my 18 month old going down the stairs. Installation needs professional skills as one side needs to be drilled for support (if you have a wall). Its easy to remove it with one hand, however, for locking it requires a lot of effort. The instructions were quite good and the parts were over supplied so it was useful.

This is a great gate. We use it to keep our large dogs contained inside. It is a great high gate and I LOVE how it doesn’t touch/scratch the floor. The opening is extra wide too which is great. Only complaint would be the instructions to assemble weren’t great.

Top lock is loose, doesn’t work so it is useless

es un buen podrusto ya que tiene varias opciones para la insatalacion de acuerdo a como sea tu escalera aparte de que se puede abrir toda y puedes pasar facilmente, Para abrirla si se puede hacer con una sola mano para cerrarla si necesitas las dos pero para mi no existe problema con eso. la recomiendo mucho.
