Poundex Corner Bookshelf, Black

I purchased one of these on Amazon in 2014,( pictured on right ) manufactured by the same company " Poundex" . I recently needed another one, so all I did was look up my previous order in my purchase history for that year and clicked "buy again" , very easy to do and it was only about $4.00 more than the first one which was no problem at all. The original one ( pictured on right ) I received in 2014 is a very nice corner shelf, very robust, heavy and sturdy. The shelves are a true 1 inch thick with a nice wood grain texture. I can't remember if the shelves were actual wood or not, but this shelf has held up very nicely even through two transports due to moving. I really thought I would be getting another one exactly like it, especially since all I had to do was hit the "buy again " button and not going through a search and hoping to find something similar. .... Well, the new one came yesterday (pictured on the left ) , and what a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT this was. Not only was one of the shelves damaged ( see last pic ), but the quality of the product has really suffered since my original purchase. As you can see, the shelves are only 5/8" thick, and they are surely not "real wood" , more like a low quality MDF. The description does say "solid wood construction" , but they'll probably just pass that off as meaning the supports, which are real wood, just not a very good quality wood, very cheap & light weight, ( I can literally lift this entire shelf unit up about a foot off the ground with one hand) and one of the side supports was slightly warped but did come straight after attaching the particle board shelves. There is no "wood grain" texture like the original one either. Also, the original came with black matching plugs to cover the screw heads, even though you really don't even see them when placed in a corner as designed. The new version does not supply the plugs, so you can see every screw head. Just very disappointed in how far this product has sunk in just five short years. I would not recommend this new version, it is not worth the money. ... The older version was so much better and worth every penny.

I have a corner in my new home that needed to house our modem. I put the modem in a decorative basket on the bottom shelf and decor items on the other shelves. It works perfectly. It was easy for our 12 yo grandson to assemble, but he's pretty much an expert at putting things together. Called him in when we decided it was too much for us.

LOVE this shelf. I want to do my good deed and leave a review here as the reviews I read help me determine what I am going to buy. It arrived super quickly. My boyfriend put it together while I was at work (awww) and said it took him about an hour and a half but was pretty simple. It is very sturdy and solid wood. The black color of the wood is true black and gorgeous. The shelves are spaced nicely and can accommodate plants which is what I was hoping for. It is a great piece and has tied our corner of the living room together in a very styled way I'm stoked!

I live in a tiny bedroom in New York City and this bookshelf is absolutely perfect for the space! Because of the subtle tapering at the top it doesn't overwhelm the room and I think actually helps to make the room look larger. It's super sturdy, was relatively easy to build, and is nice enough wood so that it doesn't look cheap. Overall very impressed with the quality of the piece! With a few strategic decor pieces and books it's added so much to the small room and really helped to make it personalized. Highly recommend!

It was actually bigger and heavier duty wood than I expected. I searched long and hard for a good shelf that was not made out of thin particle board. The material is nice and thick, some of the better stuff I have seen on amazon and more than acceptable given the price (less than $150). The hardware used with this kit was not my favorite but I still managed to get it assembled in about an hour.

Box was damaged when arrived. Didnt notice any damage until we got to the top shelf when assembling. Top shelf was damaged. Was going to return but since damage was too high to see on top shelf we decided to keep. Love the shelf for the money.

I bought two of these units to put into the corners of my kitchen dining area after I freshly painted my walls gray to give it a more urban elegant feel.. I like the openness, dimension, look and weight of these units. They are sturdy. Putting them together was like an IKEA experiment but for the price you will not be dissappointed. I watched a movie while doing it so enjoyed it. I shopped around at furniture stores and couldnt touch anything even remotely close to this for 2-3 times the price. Very saisfied and happy!

This was a gift for my daughter. She wanted a shelf and chose this one so, as usual, I got on Amazon and read reviews just to make sure it had good reviews. Most of them were so I ordered it and had it shipped to New Orleans. It arrived on time and was packaged well. She texted me a couple of times ready to scream because she said the assembly instructions were confusing at first and didn't make sense. But she finally got it put together and LOVES it. Exactly what she had been looking for!
